Treasure Chests (Cayo Perico)
To find treasure chests in GTA Online, you must first gain access to Cayo Perico by starting the heist. If you haven’t done so already, you’ll have to purchase the Kosatka submarine from Warstock Cache and Carry and complete the initial missions to get the heist running.

With that in place, you can now start the ‘Gathering Intel’ mission and explore the island for the treasure chests.

Although the chests give off a sound when you’re close, finding them still consumes a lot of time and only rewards $15,000.

While there are 19 possible spawn locations for the treasure chests, only two will spawn each day for collection. One will be on land and the other underwater.

    On Land:
  1. Beside large gray containers at the end of the runway in Cayo Perico
  2. On the northwest coast of the island near some rocks and bushes
  3. On the south shore of the runway complex between two rowboats
  4. Close to the south end of the long building at the docks
  5. South of the shack by some trees
  6. On the beach in the cove
  7. By the outpost on the small circular road in the island
  8. On the small loop road near the bushes west of the island
  9. Outside of the compound perimeter wall
  10. Near a red crane south of the dock entrance

    Underwater:
  11. Northwest coast near the runway complex
  12. Off the coast south of the control tower in the runway
  13. At the center of the coast south of the runway complex and the big island
  14. Northeast of the runway complex
  15. Northeast coast near the shack
  16. East coast near the small island
  17. Within the large southeast cove
  18. West coast near the large loop in the road
  19. Under the wooden platform in the docks

Random Event's #5 Smuggler Trail/Cache & Plane
Smuggler’s Cache/Trail

To begin this random event you need to first find it. Like other random events the Smuggler’s Trail event spawns on your map randomly. There will also be a blue dot on your mini-map and map to signify that the event is active.

Note a couple of things regarding this event. If the weather is rainy it can be hard to complete since the flairs extinguish. Second if you don’t trigger it and go to far away, the event will end.

When the event is active make your way over to the flare. Stand next to it and you will be prompted to start the Smuggler’s Trail to reach the Smuggler’s Cache. Push the interact button to start. This triggers a nearby flair to ignite. Follow the flairs as they make a trail. At the end of the trail you will find the Smuggler’s Cache. Interact with the box to receive RP and $25k.

Upon completion of the event you will need to wait 30 minutes before it has a chance of spawning into the game again. This event can occur in both public and private lobbies it’s just a matter of chance.

Smuggler’s Plane

The Smuggler Plane event is a random spawn that occurs around the three lakes in Los Santos. When the plane does spawn in you will hear sirens and a blue dot will appear on your mini-map and map, showing the planes location.

Once the plane spawn in and begins to fly all you need to do is follow it. Eventually the plane will crash into the nearby body of water. You will then see a search marker on your map of where the plane crashed. It is in this circle you want to look for the treasure left by the plane wreckage.

To get the reward for this event you need to recover the Smuggler’s Cache that drops in the plane’s wreckage. This means finding a box among the wreckage. I recommend using a Rebreather or the Scuba Gear while you are underwater so you don’t have to resurface while you are looking. Once you find and grab the cache you will receive some RP and $25k cash.

Upon completion of the event you will need to wait 35 minutes before it has a chance of spawning into the game again. This event can occur in both public and private lobbies it’s just a matter of chance.
