CSX ES40DC No. 5327 (YN3b - Western Maryland Sticker)

Kuvaus
CSX 5327 - not to be confused with KiwiRail’s DXC 5327 - was built by General Electric, the same company that built the DX, albeit 40 years later in 2006. She was one of 302 ES40DC locomotives ordered by CSX, although they were originally rated at 4,400 horsepower (being derated to 4,000hp in 2009).

The ES40DC is one of many variants of General Electric’s Evolution series, otherwise known by the catchy ‘GEVO’ nickname. Here’s what each part of the designation refers to:

ES - Evolution Series
40 - 4,000 horsepower
DC - direct current traction motors

CSX 5327 was originally painted in the YN3 livery. In 2017, she was updated to now carry the YN3b livery. She also received the logo of the fallen flag Western Maryland Railway, otherwise known as the Wild Mary. Over the past few years, CSX have been applying logos of their inherited fallen-flag railroads to some of their locomotives, bringing about the nickname ‘Sticker Unit’.
