Rust: The Unwritten Rules
By -(no-limit-llama)-
After being asked 4 times in 2 days, I figured it'd be easier to make this copy and paste-able. Rusts (mostly) unwritten rules that some of the population claims to value.

Absolutely when writing a guide for anything Rust, make the assumption that someone, or possibly even everyone, will hard-disagree with your perspective. With that in mind, I decided to document what, in my estimation, are some of the outright blatant things you should avoid doing in Rust to dodge chat call-outs, offline raids or possible server bans.
In no particular order:
  • Know what kind of server you're playing before you play - This is pretty self explanatory, but it just rubs some people the wrong way. If you join a modded server with special rules and immediately start breaking them, expect to catch some wrath from your team, your opponents, or possibly even the admin staff. Some of them don't kid around when it comes to team limits, chat restrictions, or weird don't-do's. Read the fine print first to avoid wasting those precious Sweaty-points you wrack up with each passing hour played. And FFS, don't spam chat with stupid questions that you can see the answer to in the server description.

  • Don't be toxic for the sake of seeking attention, give it some purpose - Yeah, Rust gets pretty hostile. Yeah, people say things that they wouldn't dare say outside of the sanctity of their mom's basement. Unless it's your sole mission to prove the stereotypes correct, limit the toxicity to individuals or teams instead of the whole server. This does not apply to most official server situations, you'll lose your toxic man-card if you don't flaunt your grrr-face there.

  • On the subject of Doorcamping and Roofcamping - You all watch the streamers, you all know the stories. We raided the roofcampers! Doorcampers get whats coming to them... There is a perfectly good reason these videos exist. If ingame welfare was a thing, these are the people in line to get that government cheese. If you're on a really low pop, you likely won't catch raids for these things. You'll just be playing on a 1man server within a few hours. If you do this on high pops, you will get offlined. Its just a matter of time.

  • Trust - I can only speak from personal experience here. Everyone says that the first rule in rust is Trust No one.. There is a lot of truth in that statement. Alternatively, failure to trust in some circumstances can cost you more than not. We all know what situational awareness and game-sense are in a combat situation, but these things also need to be developed socially. Watch people, get to know them, and read chat. This might not seem like an unwritten rule, but that's what makes it so... Be observant, take calculated risks, and don't betray lest ye desire betrayal.

  • Erase your aliases - Anonymity is great, pissing off clans is fantastic, and getting away with it is a thrill unmatched. Forgetting to erase your past aliases... costly. Why is this considered an unwritten rule? So many idiots do it.

  • Don't make it a habit of asking who is on cargo, rig or other monuments - If wouldn't want it done to you, think about how a team might respond if you did it to them and they knew where you live.

  • Don't despawn when that first rocket hits - If I need to explain this, go play Ark.
To acquire Chad Status
And finally, if you came to this guide seeking Chad-dom, simply do everything I advised against doing. You'll be a YouTube sensation with dozens of followers in just a few short days. So whichever way you decide to go, fire up some Hot Pockets and take your parents dog out to go potty early, Rust needs to get got.

...I think I wasn't clear. I can't even INSTALL Rust on 64-bit linux, but I could on 32-bit.

As cheaters are becoming more and more of an issue it's important that people know to NEVER call out a cheater in the chat, always use F7

As a followup to 5Ts point, most people use custom steam tags that mask their STEAM64id, so that definitely helps. Using really generic names also helps if you're looking to be more stealth, battlemetrics even gets confused if its a really common name with basic lettering. If you really wanna track them, open their steam profile in a dedicated browser window and simply refresh when you're looking.

perhonen, the EAC doesn't like linux and linux doesn't like it. While I am not an expert by any means, looking at FPs protonDB did offer some explanation. https://www.protondb.com/app/252490

Wiping Names doesnt work, grab their STEAM64 and certain websites will log their names. Then use battlemectris. Too see when they log on, Ez counter to name changing Toxic $hitbags

If you have a type of unorthodox guide you'd like done in the future, drop a comment here with the idea and i'd be happy to share my weird perspective.
