Just a brief over view for some more convoluted aspects:

-Trial Mode and its coin achievements
-Survival Mode and it's benefits/unlocks (Rachel Hairs styles and where they've been known to be found previously)
-Ambushes

Survival Mode and its benefits
This section covers Survival Mode:

Survival Mode is broken into 3 categories, each with 5 challenges:

Weapon Master - Mobs with bosses every x number of kills. You must kill the bosses to get the next tier - first boss is the 30th kill, so you must kill that boss to get bronze, for example.
Weapon Challenges exist for:
-Twin Katanas
-Virgoorian Flail
-Dabilahro (2 handed sword)
-Lunar Staff
-True Dragon Sword

Bronze is 30 Kills
Silver is 50
Gold is 100 Kills

There is a mob cap of 1,000 for leader board purposes and mobs simply repeat their waves after 100. You have no healing items in these challenges. used these challenges to grind out Weapon master achievements for Twin Katanas, Dabilahro master, and lunar staff on Xbox (100%'d th
ere).
Achieving GOLD in all Weapon Master unlocks all difficulties and Ryu's costumes. For Speeed-achievers this may be worth it, but only if you're rather skilled.

Speed Master
5 Scenarios that combine a time limit, mob types, and difficult terrain to challenge you. No bosses - just kill and progress through the level.
These can be challenging but well worth it.
I used these challenges to grind out Warhammer kills, Unlabored flawlessness kills, and Kitetsu Kills.
Getting the 100 kill rating on all of the Speed Master Trials will unlock all the Ninja Trials (nice!)

Rachel Master
5 scenarios where you play as Rachel with varying game styles between Weapon Master type and Speed Master type game play.

If you can manage to get 100 kills - the top rating on all 5 rachel missions, you will automatically unlock all of her hair styles. On the PS3 version of sigma, they were found like so:

Long Flowing - From Normal Ch.5 - Monastery Annex
Shoulder Length - From Normal Ch.14 - Bridge to Ryu's clan
Assassin Style (Blonde) - From Hard Ch.5, Monastery Annex
Rachel Traditional (Brunette) - From Hard Ch.8, The Military Gate
Long Flowing (Brunette) - From Very Hard Ch.5 - Monastery Annex
Shoulder-Length (Brunette) - From Very Hard Ch.14 - Bridge to Ryu's clan
Assassin Style (Bruntte) - Master Ninja Chapter 5, Monestary Annex
Pure Medium (Blonde) and Bitter Short (Brunette) - Only available with Survival Mode : Rachel Master Mode

Ninja Trials and "Coin" Achievements
Trial Mode Starts out offering you just a few of the trials,

Ninja Tutorial
Path of the Master Ninja
Unrivaled Meeting

Unlocking more is either clearing harder difficulties of story mode - or Getting Gold on all the speed missions in survival - not an easy feat!

But for your Trials they have multiple difficulties: you'll be wanting to get Platinum coins on each mission for the Platinum coin on all trials achievement.

Beating a trial for the first time grants bronze - for normal. Re-select it on hard for silver, Very hard after that for gold, and Platinum is awarded for clearing it on Master Ninja Difficulty.

Once you've managed to unlock all trials and plat coin them all, you'll get all those goody good achievements.

There is no reward for 100%'ing trial mode other than the achievements. You will unlock certain armor pieces and accessories as you progress through, which can be helpful for clearing other trials or in Story mode.

For Coin aficionado, you need to clear 50 different trials. Completing each trial on every difficulty is an insane grind and one that caused me a few grey hairs - but they're all possible. Some are just... really... RNG + Playing nearly perfectly when the RNG does strike. Good luck.
Ambushes
Ambushes are story segments that spawn challenge rooms - finish the challenge in all of them to get the achievement - each ambush has even more mobs on higher difficulties, and completing them within the time limit more or less guarantees MASTER NINJA rank on that mission.

Chapter 3 - airship, room with boxes
Chapter 5 - Rachel - monastery annex
chapter 7 The archive
chapter 8 military gate
chapter 9 ritual room
chapter 12 aqueduct 3
chapter 12 hall of balance
chapter 14 hayabusa village
chapter 15 the stadium
chapter 15 automatically triggers near the tairon gate
chapter 16 start of chapter when the flying mobs spawn
chapter 18 pleasure st portal in tairon
True Hero Achievement
True hero requires you to be playing on Hero mode (aka Easy mode), and reach critical hp (5% I think?)

When you reach critical hp you auto guard and auto dodge for a time - you must enter this mode 100 times, thus vindicating the devs for creating such a mode in the first place. Sounds tedious!

Select Hero mode when you start the game ( I believe?) to get this pesky achievement.

You get infinite Ninpo when Hero Mode triggers mid combat. Use this time to grind out ninpo achievements like Fire wheels.

Definitely focus on getting fire wheels done during play throughs. all others can be spam-grinded later, but fire wheels has a long cool down in between casts, making it better to use normally for achievement purposes.

@plzDuke that is pretty interesting - on this account I have not yet done eternal legend, yet did every other trial on normal and got it - so I suspect it is just one coin per trial. This guide is pretty old and I've since 100%'d this and NG2 so I suppose I should clean them up a bit

Hey, do you happen to know how the game counts "Coin Aficionado" achievement? It says "Obtain 50 coins in Ninja Trials", should be self-explanatory.
I think I have more than 50 coins yet I didn't get the achievement.
I though the game counts coins for a trial like so:
normal = +1 coin (bronze)
hard = +1 coin (silver)
very hard = +1 coins (gold)
master ninja = +1 coin (platinum)
so each trial could grant up to 4 coins in total. However, seems like it's not the case.

is there any mission mode ?

@1q2q6 Yes there are three Team Ninja Logos in the game. The first one can be found in mission 4 here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rpASm0XP8RE&ab_channel=DARKPROMEATHEAN
The other two are EXTREMELY easy to find - nearly unmissable.
The second one is in mission 11, in the military base - after beating the two tanks its in the corner of the room

And the final one is mission 18 at the very top of the tower, right next to the save point!
