Warning: The ZPM manipulates the very fundamental basis of the space/time reality construct. Use it at your own risk!

Because of this there may be adverse effects. The main danger that you will experience, at about once every 3-5 years, is that if the Dark Energy Reserve gets above 80%, you are at risk for a huge explosion anywhere along the connected grid.

If the explosion occurs inside, it will usually instantly kill any pawn within 5-6 tiles and, at full 25,000+25,000 capacitance, ignite a fireball of about 10-15 tiles in diameter, instantly raising indoor tempatures to > 2,000 F and igniting everything -- and everyone -- in the vicinity. Fire poppers are mandatory.

When used in conjunction with the Stargate, you will NOT need to wait to charge the Stargate (~20,000 kW), and in the future, it will also allow intergalactic wormhole travel (e.g., across our Internet).

Dangers of Unroofed ZPMs

An unroofed ZPM will catastrophically discharge vast amounts of electricity at random intervals.

The ZPM's delicate Zero-Point Field quantum matrix depends on a sealed, low‑pressure environment. Exposing it to atmospheric gases and charged particles destabilizes the resonance patterns that confine the Dark Energy, causing the field to flicker and fail.

The Ancients housed ZPMs deep within shielded vaults to maintain vacuum integrity, block ionizing radiation, and prevent air‑borne contaminants from degrading the containment field — ensuring stable, long‑term operation.

Risks of Open Atmospheric Exposure

  • High chance of induced flashstorm incidence.
  • Medium chance of induced intense and long-lasting solar flares.
  • Low chance of catastrophic electrical discharges.

I've substantially expanded this mod to require the ZPM to be roofed. No where in Stargate lore is a powered-on ZPM ever exposed to the open air. Even in the nation of children, it was housed inside a containment chamber.

Thus, exposed ZPMs now will cause Flashstorms, Induced Solar Flares, and eventually catastrophic electrical discharges that could destroy half your base.

The event is calibrated to occur about once every 3 years. It's best to not let the reserve stay completely full. These ZPMs are great for non-main-base colonies. You can buy 2 and have 1 charge and 1 discharging and have Teleporter Rooms teleport them back and forth. I think that's what the Ancients literally did in the Stargate universe, actually.

@Marmot: When the dark energy reserve reaches full capacity, it triggers a random event: Every longtick, there's a 0.5% chance of a *massive* overload. You'll get 32,500+ volts of electricity that will wipe out about 5-10% of the map, along any path connected to the power grid. Any pawn caught inside this radius is instant-fried. They usually wont' even find the smouldering body. Equivalent to a MOAB bunker buster.

if you load this mod before ve ancients the map fails to generate if you use the vault start, errot vanishs if you load it after
