CSX SD60i No. 8724 (YN3)

(Requires Halton's EMD SD60 and SD60M PhII Pack).

The SD60i was one of many variants of the EMD SD60 family. The prototype was built in 1993, with the remaining 80 production engines following in 1994 and 1995. This design is a hood-unit, completed with the so-called ‘Whisper-Cab’. Using a system of rubber gaskets, the cab was insulated from sound and vibration (the ‘i’ in SD60i stands for insulated, I believe).

ConRail was the only railroad to order the SD60i model. In 1999, all of these locomotives were transferred to either CSX or Norfolk Southern following ConRail’s ceasing of rail operations.

The engine that became CSX 8724 - the subject of this re-skin - was originally ConRail 5529, and remained in her old livery until 2002; three years into her life with CSX. In that year she was repainted in YN3 colours.

Throughout 2017 and 2018, CSX retired almost all of their SD60i locomotives, keeping four of them (including 8724) in service until early 2019, when they were finally retired. As far as I know, SD60i No. 8724 is still owned by CSX themselves, but is presumably in storage somewhere on their system.
