"The Tragedy of Ethan Winters" (PDF) + Extras [Major Spoilers for Resident Evil VII and Resident Evil Village]
By Пpокурор Жабоквак
Resident Evil Village Deluxe Edition is not the best premium edition of all time, but it does include content worth taking look at. Essentially, as an official art book, “The Tragedy of Ethan Winters” describes the main stages of development—Resident Evil VII and Resident Evil Village—both via concept arts and the art director’s commentary. This work meticulously dissects a plethora of ideas that have never been given the green light: early designs of the characters and environment, key story elements, and several locations. A large amount of great thoughts did not get enough attention because of tight deadlines and conflicting scenarios. A real pity—the Winters family saga could have gone a drastically different way.

You might easily compare the art book to “Half-Life 2: Raising the Bar”. It provides a lot of useful, high-quality insights into the creative twists and turns and is exceptionally interesting to read, but unfortunately, you cannot navigate through "The Tragedy of Ethan Winters" without having Village launched. Yes, the Bonuses menu is necessary to access concept arts—a staggering flaw that makes the whole experience less enjoyable.

However, I was desperately trying to find a viable solution to the annoying problem, and I think I came up with a solid alternative. Feel free to download the PDF art book from the links below—I hope you will really like the layout! Will the omnipresent spirit of copyright law spare me some mercy?

Oh, and on a side note, do you love sketches?

BEWARE: SPOILERS AHEAD
Keep in mind that the art book is swarming with heavy spoilers. I suggest you refrain from looking through it until you have beaten VII and Village. You have been warned.

Unluckily, the art director's commentary is shown only if you enable HUD on a concept art you are currently viewing. Nevertheless, I managed to put the text and images on separate pages and added the covers so that you can digest the book like a physical one.

I prepared three versions of “The Tragedy of Ethan Winters” as well—it is up to you to decide what exact type of content you want to see.
