Information

Hello there!

I fully recreated the 2nd chapter of Geonosis (To own the skies, geo_04a to geo_04d) in Garry's Mod. This map has taken over half a year of on and off development. The map is very large, taking up the entirety of the hammer space length and width wise.

A whole bunch of stuff has been improvised, such as the 3d skybox, and the tops of the rocks. I spent a huge amount of time making the map as accurate, while also being gmod friendly to sandbox and RP alike.

In the map there are doors that require two buttons to open. Both panels need to be pressed at the same time for the door to open. If you don't have another person you can go to the admin room and turn it off so only 1 button is needed.

IF YOU DECOMPILE THIS MAP, please ask permission to reupload anything you edit/change. If you want the models for the map i'm fine with people extracting them for use in say scenebuilding or SFM, but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't just use them to make maps/upload the models seperately as a pack without asking me first!!!

Old versions of the map are available too, there's nothing too interesting to find there, but you can see how the map was made history wise.

Features

General:

A huge play area, including a very tall skybox
Big ol' unit of a coreship (Accurate to the original game too ;))
Admin room
Easter egg(s)
Accurate soundscapes to the game
Recreated particles
Navmesh

Fully noded, list of nodes in use:

Basic movement nodes
Cover nodes
Override Jump nodes
Strider nodes (striders will chase you now)

Known Issues (Most are things I won't fix because they're minor, they're just there so people don't report them.)

3D skybox fog doesn't match the map's fog causing visible seams between the two at far distances
Displacements on the top of the map cause Z fighting (flickering) due to close proximity to the brushes under them
Map coreship doesn't cast a shadow in the 3D skybox
FPS can be really low for some PCs, this is due to large portions of the map being rendered at once due to how the map is designed, nothing can be done outside of extreme culling, or redesigning the whole map which at the point it wouldn't be a recreation.

Derik - Doing initial compiles for the map with final lighting, because my potato pc couldn't do it in under 1 hour. (He does in 20 minutes and it pisses me off)

Also it means a lot to me that you feel the way you do about the map, <3 it was goal to make it feel just like the game so i'm happy to hear you feel that way.

I'd still love to do more, but I haven't been in the mood sadly. Working on a Splinter Cell 1 map right now for a commission, plus another game map right after. I did start work on a multiplayer map port just for fun so I'll hopefully finish that one sometime after.

This map is awesome feels like you're actually playing the game! It would be awesome if you could do this for more Republic Commando or other Star Wars game maps.
