This is the fix [i.imgur.com]
All you need to do is under "Quick Select" is select the sub-command for the first action and change it to "Cleared from Parent". It has to be changed for all four face buttons. It only applies to the weapon select. Don't delete / reset the command as Steam Input often eats whole input tables on layers when you do that. It's probably a bug and maybe even fixed at this point but I don't trust it anymore.
The update changed some functionality to how action layers work so they're faster & more consistent but, uh, did that for whatever reason when it didn't before.
i'm now finding that releasing left trigger always switches to my last weapon, even when i want to switch to a different weapon, which is making switching weapons kind of impossible. and when i try the most recent official version of this config, the last weapon selection functionality just doesn't work at all when i press the left trigger. was wondering if you had any wisdom to impart here?
There's some unintended behavior from the last release that I've since fixed on my end but I haven't updated the configs because I've been lazy. Also still trying to find a way to add some leniency on weapon switching to prevent accidental presses; some days I can do it no problem and some it feels like it happens randomly (usually jumping after shotgun)
dunno if it will ever be possible, just might not be something the software can do
That's all I've got at the moment

You can convert the Nintendo/and or Sony config (current as of today is 4.0.2 on the community layout tab) which will determine what layout the face buttons are. I believe The Sony config will work best, but it'll need tweaks. Back buttons are unmapped naturally- those come down to preference but other than weapons you could probably map them to utilities like arm/weapon swaps- and having the weapon wheel there for easy access sounds like a good idea
The L button doesn't quite become serve the same function anymore, but it'd be a good idea (imo) to change the gyro button to Left Stick Touch and have that turn on gyro. (it's currently set to "always on") I cannot guarantee that there's no weird problems or conflicts as I cannot test that easily.
