What are levels in CS:GO?

On the 26th of May 2015 "Operation Bloodhound" began. Together with this operation profile leves in CS:GO were introduced to the community. It is available for all players (including non-prime and free accounts) to grind experience in order go get a "Service Medal"

You would need 5000 points of experience (XP) to level up. If we take into account that each service medal is obtained after reaching level 40 we can calculate that we would need at least 195.000 experience points to get one of these medals. It is important to know that you can only win XP in official Valve servers, this means that community servers will NOT give you experience while playing in them.



Each time you level up you will be able to see a new emblem on your profile with a new title!. "Recruit" being the 1st title for all players in level 1 while "Global General" is the last available tittle for all players in level 40.

The Service Medal

Once you reach level 40 you will get an option to reset your level back to 1. If you decide to do this (You should!) you will get the current's year Service Medal that will be in your inventory permantly. You can showcase your service medal in-game for the rest of people to see!

ATTENTION! Once you reach level 40 you can NOT go further so if you continue to play without claiming your service medal you will not be able to get more XP.

Each year has different service medal of different colors depending on which level you reached in the current year?

1-. Game Modes

*You can only win XP in official Valve servers, NOT on community servers*

The quantity of experience that you recieve depends on multiple factors but it is mainly based in personal performance. The only exception is competitive ,pdes wjere tje quantity of XP you get at the end of the amtch is depending on the number of rounds won.

2-. Bonus Experience and restrictions

At the start of each week a XP "bonus" will be avaliable to you, this goes down depending of how much experience you won during that specific wee. Finally if you play a lot you will see that your XP is restricted. This means that all the experience you win past that point will be lower but dont worry because the 4x XP bonus will be available next week!

3-. Especial Operation Bonuses

During operations Shattered Web and Broken Fang (if you have the pass) you were able to get XP bonus cards. This levels you up by 1 level (5000 XP) without affecting your weekly bonus.

The skin of the bonus cards change with each operation so there is no point to keep the XP cards as a "collectable"

4-. XP Overload

Once you reach 11.166 EXP points during a period of 7 days you will enter the "XP Overload"

This means a badge with a lighting will be shown during matches to show how much weeks ago you have not touched grass. For each week that you reach the "XP Overload" the icon will change to let everyone know how much you spent in the computer

5-. Overwatch Bonus

Overwatch is the CS:GO system made by Valve for the community to help in catch cheaters/hackers it is available for all accounts if you complete the requirements

The Overwatch system is available once you reach the following criteria:

1-. 150 Wins in competitive (5v5)
2-. +350 Hours in CS:GO
3-. At minimum competitive rank Nova I

After a Overwatch case if "The suspect" is banned you will receive a message like these while in the main menu. This makes you win a little bonus XP after you complete a match in Valve official servers.

2015 Service Medal

The 2015 service medal is made of a star together with 4 spear heads .
Initially when Operation Bloodhound you were only able (hipotetically) to get 2 different medals, while in lvl 1 your medal was Blue it became Purple in lvl 2.

2016 Service Medal

The 2016 service medal is formed by the now classic star surrounded of what again appers to be sperheads but this time making a kind of circle.

After what was basically a test year in 2015, they added 5 more levels for the medal. After some math we get to that we need aproximatly 1.4 Million experience points to get the level 7!

2017 Service Medal

In 2017 we continue with the star but this time it is inside a circle of leafs surrounded of small spikes together with 2 knifes in the bottom part.

Like last year, in 2017 there were 7 levels of service medals following the same color scheme starting with the medal being White in level 1 and Black in level 7

2018 Service Medal

The Service medal in this year was caracterized by the shield that is behind the star, together with a pair of eagle wings with a subtitle that reads "Offici Exemplare" that means "Official Exemplary".

In 2018 the 7th level of the service medal was eliminated leaving only 6 levels available. Following the example of past years it starts with White in level 1 but because the level 7 medal was removed it was replaced by a level 6 Red medal!

2019 Service Medal

The service medal in 2019 is very similar to the 2015 one with the difference that this included a couple of crossed swords in the background.

En 2019 there were no significant changes, it also stars in level 1 being white and ends up being red in level 6 in the same way as 2018 medals did. (Sorry but I could not get a ordered pic of the medals)

2020 Service Medal

During 2020 we find a round medal with leafs at the sides and the point of a knife in the bottom part.
Following the same pattern of past years this medal colors go from white to red.

2021 Service Medal

In 2021 we found a star in a circular shield background with a crown and again a couple of Eagle wings at the bottom of the medal.
With the same system as past years this medal is available in 6 colors them from white in level 1 and red in level 6!

2022 Service Medal

For 2022 the service medal has been fully turned into a Shield with a little banner at the bottom that reads "Offici Exemplare"

This Italian phrase means Exemplary Officer

2023 Service Medal

In 2023 the Service Medal has caught Fire! With a big flaming star in the middle laying on top of a shield this new medal changed drastically from last year!

2024 Service Medal

For a more humble but not worse design, the 2024 medal shows again a big star but this time enclosed inside a Pentagon

Available from Gray to Red, it follows the alredy classic color pattern for Service Medals
