Ethereal Horses of Skyrim

UPDATE 04/15/2014: The BSA file has been uploaded and recompiled. The colors of the horses should be visible now.

This mod adds four beautiful, ghostly horses, two adults and two ponies, to Skyrim, located on one of Rorikstead's peaceful farms.

The first, Dream Catcher, is the fastest of the horses at a speed of 300.
The second, Jade Fire, is moderately fast at 200.
The ponies, Solar Storm and Cherry Blossom, have a speed of 250.

All of them are completely invulnerable and have insanely high stamina -- you can literally jump from the Throat of the World, survive the fall without a scratch, and sprint with them for hours afterward. That is because they are neither dead nor alive. They are immortal.

A word of caution: Try not to lose these horses. They will not return to Rorikstead if you leave them behind somewhere and thus will become "lost." I recommend using a horse calling mod, such as Iskariot's Whistle, to keep track of them.

How they came to be:

Long ago, during the Great War, the Thalmor attacked an Imperal Horse Camp and killed every warhorse on the property, from foals to even pregnant mares. Among them was Dream Catcher, her mate Jade Fire, and their newly born twins: the male Solar Storm and the female Cherry Blossom.

Later that night, a young Necromancer, having stumbled on the corpses, decided to raise them as a family of undead horses to use for his own. But he was as young as he was foolish -- he botched the ritual and killed himself in the process. However, in his folly, the shades of these noble steeds materialized, and thinking they were alive again, waited patiently for their owners to return for them. They had no idea that they were now Ethereal Creatures, trapped in the realm of the living forever.

The Nine Divines took pity on these poor lost spirits, and guided them to Rorikstead, knowing that one day, a kind soul will come along and adopt these beautiful creatures.
