The Setup
ATTENTION: The guide is old. but most of it still works.

1: Get some Mountain Lore
when the game beginns, just walk around and uncover tiles, by doing that we get these Mointain Lore to unlock new buildings and recipes.

we Do that until we have at least 7 better 14

then we learn "Subterranean Farming" and "Metallurgy" if are points left

2: Build Small Quarry
that will help us to make money and makes sure we can support our needs.

we build 2 of them! so in one a dwarf can mine "Granite Chunk".
And in the other one another dwarf can refine the chunks to the other granite building materials (you will get the recipes if you mine one granite chunk in the quarry)

so basicly 2 dwarf are working in the quarry's. the 3rd one is carrying the matierials.

3: making some money
that will help us to get greed later on. but most important: to get trade science points.

we do that by making every granite building item around 10 times. beter ceep always a stock of 10 of every granite item from the quarry

we can then sell them to the overworld, (try making a keep ammount work order with direct sell)

selling pillars is a good way to earn good amount of money early on. to buy wood an dwarfes

4: build a Cave Farm
after building a farm we are now able to fill the energy and morale need by producing water and mushrooms.
keep always a little bit crushed granite. because that can be used as fertilizer if your farm goes low on "Fecundity"
also make some fertile soil ground in the landscaping tab

you can find musrooms in the wild:

5: build housing
because we traded so much: we now can buy wood from one village that are propably discovered. otherwise trade a bit more.
that and the high ammount of money makes sure you can fill your greed a long time

The Last Step
now we fill energy, morale and greed. the last thing health is made by making "Mushroom Paste"
in the "Infirmary" learned by "Medicine" until then: dwarfes eat mushrooms frome the cave they find.

but then if you setup some "maintain" workorders, your dwarfes will survive.

Happy diggi diggi hole
Health
Early on:

- "Mushroom Paste" from the "Infirmary"

Tipp:
- "Mushroom Pase" can be made by using "Toncap Mushrooms" from farming on fertile Soil ground

Energy
Early on:

- Sleeping in Dwelling
- "Lichen Soup" from the "Cook House"

Tipp:

Tipp:
"Crushed Granite" from the "Quarry" can be used to refill "Fecundity" in the "Cave Farm"
Greed
Filled by having money and housing for the dwarfes
Hunger
only by eating.

the cook house has always some recipes to make basic need. like any meat.
but you can eat raw meat and mushrooms too

find toncap mushrooms in the wild an plant them on fertile soil
(found in lanscaping tab, you also need the Subterranean Farming reseach to plan toncap)

you have to harvest toncap mushrooms. and then plant them in soil. toncap mushrooms are basicly everywhere... even at the start. just make sure. you plant them in soil. and someone can actually do taht work

Hello I recently started this game and I have a problem with mushrooms. I found out how to grow mushroom but I cannot find mushroom in the cave so I started new game but I still cannot find mushrooms. I searched every tunnel but I couldn't find one. Does mushroom appear randomly?

Rough, but accurate. Prefer making Pillars, little less cost effective, but the larger cash helps... There have been some changes, now with the new release, but this is still 99% legit to hold to.

Thanks for this short and sweet basic beginner's guide. Would you be able to add a section on how to obtain charcoal, coal etc for the foundry? Thank you!

Nice guide! short and sweet :cozyspaceengineersc:
for health, there's also some statues/caves that can create healing items if you assign a dwarf to it, and they have unlimited resources (that has to recharge over time though). If I remember correctly, one is some sort of water. if you check the description of the item it creates, it says it restore some HP. :pickax:
