DYING LIGHT: HOW TO PLAY CO-OP IN THE GAME

A co-op session can only be started in Dying Light after having completed the first night in the game. The tutorial lasts for about 45 minutes, and after sleeping in the first safe zone, you can unlock co-op. Sessions in co-op multiplayer can be started in Dying Light by going into Matchmaking with other players. You can also invite your friends directly from the friends’ list for a session.

The error me and my friend had was the: "Your game data appears to be modified" when we had brand new installs of Dying Light, dlcs, Steam and Windows

Okay so we did end up connected our games to our epic logins but that may have done nothing. It was my friends game as it turns out. I verified game files through Steam (PC/Windows), they also are using Windows PC and I uninstalled all dlc by clicking on the dlc properties and de-selecting them. My friend also uninstalled all dlcs and then they browsed local Dying light files and deleted both the dw dlc 39 & 40 folders under the main folder. Restarted game and now co-op works. Changing controls did not derp it. Both of us are in different time zones. Both of us didn't mod anything. Both of us completed the first mission (which took us almost two hours solo play by the way- they should allow us to connected during the tutorial, it's ridiculous). We are currently trying to figure out which dlc caused their game to show this error on the main screen...

Can we connect in co-op through Steam invites? We have completed the first mission and it still says our game saves are different. We are at the exact same point. Do I have to be in the same time zone as my friend? Do we have to login to epic? Is it easy to successfully initiate co-op play? Do the servers ever work? Is this broken now? I wish you could just jump in and play with each other like in Borderlands 1/2 & Rocket League, it's much easier to connect.
