Intro
If you have Standard Edition of AC:B in Steam, you cannot upgrade it to Deluxe Edition (proof). To get the Deluxe content, you need to buy the Deluxe edition. Problem is, if you already have a Standard Edition in Steam, it won't allow you to buy the Deluxe Edition (Steam will say you already own this game). Here's how you can work around this issue and get the Deluxe edition:

  • If your purchase of Standard Edition fits the criteria for refund (see here), refund the game and buy the Deluxe Edition. Problem solved.
  • If your purchase of Standard Edition does not fit the criteria for refund, read on.

Your next steps depend on whether you have already activated your AC:B Standard Edition in Ubisoft Connect or not.
Case 1: AC:B not activated yet
Scenario 1: you have never launched AC:B Standard Edition, and you did not activate the CD Key (product license key) for AC:B in Ubisoft Connect:

  1. Open Ubisoft Store in your Browser and log in under the same Ubisoft account you are using for your Steam games, in case you have several Ubisoft accounts.
  2. Find AC:B Deluxe Edition in Ubisoft store (this link should work[store.ubi.com]) and purchase it.
  3. Open Ubisoft Connect (you need it installed, and you have to log in under the same account you've used for purchasing AC:B Deluxe Edition) and go to Games.
  4. Find "Assassin's Creed® Brotherhood Deluxe Edition" under "My Games" list and click on it.
  5. Click on the "Show key" button to reveal your AC:B Deluxe Edition product key. Copy it to clipboard (click on "Copy" under the key in Ubisoft Connect) or take a picture on your smartphone if you're afraid copy-pasting won't work (pasting the key from the clipboard doesn't work with certain games, in my experience).
  6. Launch AC:B from Steam. When Ubisoft Connect asks you to provide a license key for activating the product, input the product key displayed in Ubisoft Connect on previous step (paste it from the clipboard or type it in manually).
  7. Profit: you now have a Deluxe edition of AC:B with all deluxe content, and you can launch it from Steam. No extra steps should be necessary, although if you really want to be sure, you can try pasting the same product key in the "Main Menu" > "Extras" > "Exclusive Content" dialog.
Case 2: AC:B already activated
Scenario 2: you have already launched AC:B Standard Edition at least once, and you have already activated the CD Key (product license key) for the Standard Edition in Ubisoft Connect:

Note that you will have two AC:B games in the list: one listed as "Assassin's Creed® Brotherhood" (this is the Standard edition), and another one that explicitly mentions the Deluxe edition. You can safely hide the Standard edition to avoid confusion: right-click on its icon and choose "Hide" option. The game does not fully disappear from your account, it's just moved in the "Hidden" list at the bottom (collapsed by default).
When the main game menu opens, click "Extras", then "Exclusive Content", then paste your AC:B Deluxe Edition product key there.
  7. Profit: you now have a Deluxe edition of AC:B with all deluxe content, and you can launch it from Steam.

From now on you will only have two problems: 1) every time you launch your game from Steam, you will be asked which version (Deluxe or Standard) you want to play; 2) no Steam overlay, so no screenshots, no FPS counter, and so on. You can still make screenshots via Ubisoft Connect and then upload them to Steam via a third-party SteaScree tool[steascree.download].
Access to extra Deluxe content
To access the Deluxe extras provided in Deluxe edition:

  1. Open Ubisoft Connect, find "Assassin's Creed® Brotherhood Deluxe Edition" under "My Games" list, and click on it.
  2. Click "Deluxe Content" in the navigation menu. There'll be an option to download all Deluxe extra content to your computer. The download is a single zip file almost 2 GB in size.

Hope this helps.

Hi. I saw your guide about AC:B(Standard Edition to Deluxe Edition), of course the guide is not relevant, but suddenly you will explain the situation to me. Point #1 tells you how to get the Deluxe Edition using the basic game in steam (which has not yet been downloaded and activated in Ubisoft Connect), and the Deluxe Edition in Ubisoft Connect. I would like to know if such a trick will work if AC:B(Steam) is received as a gift, and if AC:B Deluxe(Ubisoft Connect) is purchased and activated with a key. You could just buy AC:B Deluxe, but the game was withdrawn from sale, and there are no steam keys left at all.

Btw it sucks that game have all the content and it's just closed. And 1Mb file opens it. I mean you already have all the files downloaded but... Ubisoft is ubisoft.

If anyone still have issues with this Editions. There's a guide by Alin. here with his 100% save file. Check it. It will deffinetely helps. You only need to download his OPTIONS file from his save fileand replace yours with his. That will open all the Exclusive content and bla bla bla and all your game progress will be saved.

You are unfortunately correct, jpc1918 ---{TIL}---. I've updated the guide to indicate that the guide is outdated and irrelevant.

PS. Man, I wish we were in a timeline where getting a game means it's fully yours forever, no ifs and buts. Current GaaS / always online / etc trend is horrible for cultural preservation of video games.

None anymore my friend
You can buy it and god bless Ubisoft, you pay for something you can't access anymore since the made SP content rely on an online server
