RMS Arcadia - 1950s Cruise Liner

Beschreibung
*RMS Arcadia*

RMS Arcadia is Canadian Atlantic Line's first purpose built cruise liner, based on the Caronia of 1947, and the four Cunard liners in the Saxonia Class of 1954-57 (beginning with RMS Saxonia).

*IMPORTANT POINTS*

-Spawns at the normal vehicle workbench

-To use this ship, please DO NOT use infinite electricity, or infinite fuel- the ship will not work properly.

-The ship is detailed and has a lot of objects/lights, if you don't have a good computer, you will have lag/crashes! Sorry!

-Arcadia comes with usable 6 lifeboats, autopilot, bulkheads, and two different Mayday Modes that can be activated in the bridge- a Fire (boiler explosion), and traditional head first Sinking.

*Instructions*

The RMS Arcadia is fast, easy to handle, and straightforward to use! Spawn at one of the docks, head down to the boiler/engine room, and press one of the “Light Boiler” buttons.

Then, you can either control the ship from the bridge or the engine room.

*Description and (Fictional) History*

This is the RMS Arcadia! An oil-burning boiler driven ocean liner built at Clydebank Scotland in 1949 for the Canadian North Atlantic Line for regular cruises around the world, and a yearly transatlantic service between Southampton, Le Havre, and Montreal.

Arcadia features 5 First Class Staterooms, 2 First Class Cabins, and 4 Tourist Class Cabins, as well as a bar, two restaurants, Grand Staircase, Promenade, Purser's Desk, and Infirmary. She also has a Radio Room, Bridge, Engine Room, Crew Quarters, and a lot of open deck space to explore, complete with sun loungers!

Six fully usable lifeboats are available for your use. This compliments a Sinking Mode and a separate Fire Mode (boiler explosion button and sinking buttons are in the wheelhouse!)

Canada is powered by a double-ended oil burning boiler, which powers two steam turbines driving two screws for a regular service speed of 22 knots, and a top speed of about 30.

After World War II, the Canadian Atlantic Line operated two large ocean liners on the Southampton - Montreal run. The famous RMS Empress (1938) and RMS Canada (1935) operated a weekly express service. The company placed an order for a third ship to be built primarily for cruising- the first purpose-built cruise ship for the line.

With that in mind, the new ship, Arcadia, received many different features from her fleet-mates. An outdoor swimming pool was a new thing, as was having dedicated sundecks and multiple restaurants. However, unlike modern cruise ships her accommodation was still divided into classes; First and Tourist.

To distinguish her from other liners, the company decided to give her a different colour scheme. Instead of going for the then typical black hull with a white superstructure, Arcadia received a unique shade of "Cruising Green", making her a highly attractive and instantly recognisable vessel.

Another striking feature of the ship was her large single funnel, one of the largest ever installed aboard a ship. Arcadia was the largest passenger ship to be built in Scotland after World War 2 until the new M.S Empress twenty years later.

Arcadia had a lengthy career, with a maiden voyage in 1950, and not being retired until 1969 after multiple renovations and trips all over the world. She was to be used as a museum ship, however, whilst being towed back to Canada across the Atlantic in 1970, she was caught in a storm. One of the ocean-going tugs collided into her bow, damaging both ships and leading the top-heavy RMS Arcadia to capsize and sink, taking her and all her luxurious furnishings, as well as two crew members, to the bottom of the Atlantic. The wreck is still in good condition and viewable on deep-sea dives.
