Petellius' Legate of the IXth - A complete overhaul (Updated for EE)

Description
I promise that you HAVE NEVER played anything like LotN before!
Petellius' Overhaul - or LotN - is a complete overhaul of the campaign and battles to create as close to realism as I can, while also providing more variation than you have ever seen in a factions units. This mod slows down battles and has completely changed the way in which you will play Rome 2 and I have added several units and factions, each with their own unique flavour.
For more info on these changes please watch the videos or ask me in the 'questions' discussion, thanks Petellius XD

THIS MOD HAS REALISTIC UNIT SIZES WHEN USED ON 'MEDIUM' SIZE. There is, however, nothing wrong with using ultra as it is basically vanilla sizes

LotN http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=248395470

EoR http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=248397644

LotN with wider spacing (reduced blobbing) http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=248395530

LotN with 3x units http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=226362071

Legionare's armies mod for LotN http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=248472868

Short Overview

Complete overhaul of ALL factions to make them more realistic, with emphasis on Romans who now have several abilites like shield wall, shield screen, rotating ranks and realistic close and loose formations that allow for effective use of the line relief system.
All factions have their own unique appearance, abilities, formations and skills in combat (E.g. barbarians better charges/hellenic more defensive)
Lots of variation between each unit in a faction.
Longer (12-18 mins) more tense and unique battle scenarios that will leave you on the edge of your seat (seriously they are really difficult to master).
Toned down missiles but gave them different roles so they are still useful.
Added Fire at Will to most heavy inf.
Fixed the Hoplite Wall ability
Cavalry great during charge but once bogged down in infantry are quickly get cut down, yet cavalry battles last long times and have tactics all of their own.
Elephants balanced so that they kill one or two units and terrify everyone else, but they are pretty easy to combat.

Recommended Mods
- Matched Combat Begone (means that units stay in formation more)
- Legionare's textures for LotN (realistic units that still work with my overhaul of Gallic factions
- Talents Traits and Toadies

(very) long description

(1) Morale
(2) Fatigue
(3) Spacings
(4) Melee
(5) Missiles
(6) Cultural and unit traits

(1) Morale
- Being exhausted and scared due to losses or being under fire now has a high negative morale impact.
- Being hit in the rear has a massive morale impact and will dissolve the unit quickly no matter how elite it is
- When over two thirds of the army has left the battlefield or been killed the rest of the army will take a large morale debuff and will run for the hills
- Winning combat has a slight morale buff.
- Charging has a high morale buff so good for low morale armies

(2) Fatigue
- Charging has a large fatigue debuff
- walking and being idle allow your units to catch their breath and recuperate, so its good to rest them every so often otherwise their combat effectiveness dramatically decreases.
- being under fire has a fatigue debuff and as the men get more tired their ability to block missiles decreases (after all have you ever tried to stick a scutum over your head for ages while having arrows shot at you?... I have and its not fun)
- Combat drains fatigue rather quickly so having reserves is a fantastic idea to take over from your tired units.

(3) Spacings
- Barbarian units now look spread out and like a disorganised mob.
- Roman units now make awesome shield walls with almost no space between each shield
- Mass has also been overhauled so that units push each other backwards more

(4) Melee
- Melee now takes longer but with a quick burst of deaths at the beginning so against 'ambusher' armies be careful of that first few minutes!
- Cavalry now have interesting battles between themselves which last only a little bit less than the normal infantry battles so that you can use cavalry tactics as well as infantry tactics, though they do get slaughtered by infantry when bogged down and overwhelmed.
- Being attacked in the rear has a melee attack and defence penalty

(5) Missiles
- Slings have the longest range (apart from longbows) and high damage but low AP (high accuracy)
- Javelins have high AP and medium damage with a collision explosiony thing so that formations are ripped apart but most units will receive no more than 30 kills from one javelin unit after the javelinmen have expended all of their ammunition, Pila and other infantry javelins also give a defensive and melee debuff (low accuracy)
- Bows are an in between, while longbows and compound bows are lethal (medium accuracy)
- Cavalry are vulnerable to missiles due to their size while elephants are effected by javelins

(6) Traits
Britions and Iberians
Both of these factions contain a lot of 'ambusher units' that are high attack but low defence with low morale meaning they have a great charge but are not inclined to stay in combat for too long. Iberians are slightly more steady however with even some units sporting shieldwall. Their units can be created in bulk for a high upkeep price but low creation price in campaigns meaning it is best to create an army only when it is needed as was most accurate to history
(200-240 mel inf)

Hoplites
Steady when in formation and takes hours to break (seriously matched hoplites fighting each other can take up to an hour if you just sit there and do nothing). Lower morale and charge value so that they need to stay in formation to win most of the time. Takes ages to create and have a higher creation and upkeep cost due to their professionalism. However their support troops tend to be limited and expensive.
(200 mel inf)

Pikes
Low damage but good and fixing enemies in place and slaughter lightly armed infantry and cavalry.Lower morale and charge value so that they need to stay in formation to win most of the time. Takes ages to create and have a higher creation and upkeep cost due to their professionalism.
However their support troops tend to be limited and expensive.

Normal barbarians (arverni, suebi, getae and ardieai)
These guys are the normal people, a mix of the 'ambushers', steady shieldwall spearmen heavy melee infantry with decent javelins to boot and good cavalry (excluding those last two they have rubbishy hellenic cav). Their units can be created in bulk for a high upkeep price but low creation price in campaigns meaning it is best to create an army only when it is needed as was most accurate to history. Very large units.
(200-240 mel inf)

Romans
Best troops in the game without doubt all units have several formations and abilities to adapt to any situation as well as having a good selection of heavy missile and cavalry troops. COMPLETELY OP. Except... they are almost always outnumbered, especially their rather mediocre cavalry.

I'm afraid that work on this mod has stopped at the minute, I am working on an overhaul named Antiqua Imperium on the Total War Centre if you want to check it out, unit sizes are more realistic there. Also there is a version of this mod that has realistic unit sizes for all factions :) (they are much bigger though at around 480-600 men) the link to this is in the description

Hi, great mod i like a lot. Campaign it s more realistic but i don t like to be allays outnumbered xD. Can u make all units size the same? It s realistic but the real legions was like 5000 men and whit 20 unit slots it s impossible play it.
