Saunders-Roe SR.N6 Winchester Class Hovercraft

Açıklama
The Saunders-Roe SR.N6 Winchester Class Hovercraft is derived from the successful SR.N5 Warden Class Hovercraft. While the SR.N5 was the first successful production hovercraft, the SR.N6 was the first commercially successful hovercraft. The "stretched" design allowed it to carry more passengers, and due to this design change the SR.N6 saw widespread use across Britain ferrying passengers to such places as the Isle of Wight or across the English Channel. It's design and implementation allowed customers/carriers to gain knowledge and experience for when the SR.N4 Mountbatten Class Hovercraft became available, which also drew some of it's design from the SR.N6.

This version of the SR.N6 mimics the real version as much as possible. It's painted in British Rail Seaspeed colors and would have seen use in this configuration ferrying passengers to and from the Isle of Wight. This service offered by Seaspeed was in anticipation and run-up to eventual services across the English Channel with the SR.N4. I was unable to obtain detailed information on the real hovercraft so where most systems operate realistically they may not behave identically to the real world counterpart. The vehicle can traverse most of the low lands in game and transition from land to water easily, allowing for great speed and mobility in crossing the in-game map. The hovercraft is also compatible with the amazing 'Stormlink' mod created by 'End of the Line'.
    SPECIFICATIONS

  • Navigation Light - ON
  • Fuel Pump - ON
  • H.P. C0ck - ON
  • Engine Start - PRESSED
  • Starter Light - OBSERVED, ON

*The Inverter is only required if the Radar and the 'Directional Gyro Compass' are needed.

    NOTES
  • The SR.N6 used a system of hydraulics to 'lift' it's skirt to allow for turns and slipping, this rendition operates similarly.
  • The SR.N6 had a series of "Puff Ports" port and starboard that could direct air laterally and arrest yaw or slip the hovercraft left or right, this vehicle has that system implemented and can be used via the Hotkeys.
  • In an emergency, drop the Throttle RPM to 'low' and the hovercraft will stop quickly, even on water.
  • Use of the Trim (available in the cockpit, not the 'Alt-key' Trim) is highly recommend, setting a high 'nose up' angle over water allows for higher speeds, setting the Trim 'nose down' is useful in rough seas to aid in turning. Pitching the skirt down 'W-key' also allows for tighter turning.
  • Like all hovercraft the SR.N6 is susceptible to high winds, and steep terrain.
  • While it is capable of high speeds over land, I recommend keeping your speed under control to avoid damage.
  • When you encounter a "lip" or "glitch" in the terrain use Hotkey 6 "Clear Obstacle" to lift the Hovercraft slightly so you can negotiate the obstacle. The hovercraft will return to it's normal height after a few seconds.
  • The 'Engine Fault' light will come on when one of a few things happen with the engine:
    - The Throttle is moved to the 'high' setting before the Turbine reaches 2000 RPM*
    - The Engine is shutdown while the Throttle is still in the 'high' setting
    - The Throttle is moved to the 'high' position when the oil pressure is below ~40psi
*This action also results in the Turbine suffering a "Flame-out"
  • While fitted with a radar set this system was only used in inclement weather when visibility was poor, otherwise the hovercraft was operated with a single man crew.
  • The radar takes 30 seconds to warm up, so if needed it's recommended the Radar Power be turned 'on', but the antenna left 'stowed' to avoid radiating boarding passengers until the ramp and hatch are closed and the hovercraft is at sea.

I hope you enjoy this hovercraft, WH1T3_No1SE with his Zephyr Class Hovercraft and Sir_Murtak with his LCAC served as an inspiration and a source of knowledge for this project.
Thanks Gents!

VostokMercenary, very glad you like the model, it means alot! Despite my general thinking that the SR.N4 is too large to serve any realistic purpose in Stormworks, I've started gathering information on it's systems, general layout, and operation. I have a few other projects I'd like to knockout first though, before I start something that large.

Great model. Perfect balance of realistic and arcade like systems. Would love the SRN4 by fancy updated with this models approach to lift/skirt control. Or even a new 1:1 scale, that would get my donation :p2cube:

olpalrickypik, sorry you're having trouble, are you sure you are not confusing the 'Gas Generator' and 'Turbine' RPM gauges? It's been a common problem folks have had before.

infinite electric off, all things on the start list checked, wont start

Aw ok, was just hoping as im not very good at building and I can only find 1 SR.N4 on the ws. But thanks for the quick response and good luck getting through the pile

oooooo, no it's still on the "pile", but the pile is HUGE! :steamfacepalm: Thanks for the continued interest!

have plans changed and you would like to make an SR.N4 or do you still not have them planned

The RRT Commander, just like your car, if you slow down you'll find through the use of tilting the skirt, and yawing the vehicle with the rudder you can turn in an extremely tight circle. Don't forget to use the Puff Ports to reduce slipping. Complicated, but once mastered you'll find this vehicle to be extremely maneuverable. Hope that helps!

Can you turn on infinite electric after you start the boat and start moving? this is a very nice boat, though it does take a while to turn.

soup, I did not have anything planned at the moment, they one I'd like to do is the SR.N2.
