Description

What is it?

This is the loading screen that appears to players when they join your game! It can also be set as your default server loading screen fallback, them you'll see it while joining servers that didn't set a custom screen.

I'd really like to emphasize that this addon is for servers only, as the name suggests. It means you won't see it when starting singleplayer games, EVER, but other players when joining both your listen or dedicated servers. And again, it's also possible to set it as your fallback loading screen when you join any server.

My goal here is to reproduce this old GMod loading screen in a customizable and slightly expanded way. This style was used during GMod 10 and at the time it wasn't possible to have different experiences while loading. Some time later Facepunch changed the screen to this one, but I don't like it very much.

As I want to keep close to the old screen, there will be no crazy updates. In addition, the max link size is small and I'm already very close to the limit, so the addon is basically done.

ADDON DEV STATUS: BUG FIXES ONLY

Since 03/12/2022 I've been only providing fixes for this addon.

How to use

All you have to do is subscribe for the screen to work.

To customize it, open the menu by typing the command in the console.

It's not necessary to restart the server after changing the settings, everything is applied immediately.

Even if you exit the game, your screen will be saved and remain as you left it.

The screen is supposed to support all gamemodes, but send me a warning if you find an error!

[UPDATE] WARNING!! There's a new checkbox in the "Options -> Multiplayer" tab!! The screen will not work on clients with this disabled.

Use the OG Loading Screen by default

If you want to use this loading screen as your fallback default one, enter a map at least once after subscribing to OGL, close the game then open the file "...\garrysmod\lua\menu\menu_addon.lua" and change its content to this one[github.com].

You can still customize the screen and see it as you like.

Uninstall

If the loading screen doesn't disappear after you unsubscribe, type sv_loadingurl "" in the console!

Live test

Check it out:

I use this same simulation inside GMod to preview the different screens created.

Is this the only loading screen in the Workshop?

Apparently yes, I couldn't find any other at least.

I believe that there are no other loading screens to subscribe because they require a host and very tricky upload methods. To be more specific, part of this addon is in Lua (here) and the other in HTML, CSS and JS actually hosted in my Google Drive by a service called DriveToWeb[drv.tw]. Then to upload this addon to Workshop, I needed to compile a modified version of GMad with a wider files whitelist and I used SteamCMD itself to instead of gmpublish. All the details are written in the GitHub repository.

Anyway, I love restoring content in this game and expanding it, so there it is the OG loading screen for everybody!

Thanks to Ceifa for this idea.

I really need to find a video about the loading screen to show it. But I cannot. Maybe multiple line not sure. Need to check it.

Actually I'm not sure if the audio is working, I forgot to test it... Anyway, Chrome hates to autoplay any kind of media, so I'm not sure if this feature will survive here.

What do you mean by "The files are not jumping"? Aren't they moving correctly over the screen or aren't them moving to multiple lines? The last one is configurable.
