Rust : Useful Key Binds & Client Commands Guide [MARCH 2025]

This guide will show you a list off Key Bind Commands and Useful Commands,

With a step by step guide on how to add Key Binds & To do Client Commands.

With Rust being constantly updated, there may be differences to Gun Damage, Explosive Damage, Item building/crafting costs and possibly newly added content, so the guide will need to be updated.

Introduction : Useful Key Binds & Client Commands
To input Keybinds and Commands Press F1 on your keyboard to open your console this can be done on the main menu or in-game
When you press F1 on your keyboard the background should fade grey with a Navy/Grey text box at the bottom this is where you will be typing the keybind commands or commands.

A list of keybinds and commands listed below which will help you decide what keys you want to bind the command to , and to remind you of what commands you can enter in on the Console.

You can Copy-paste the keybinds & commands here and press Enter on your Keyboard (If you want too ofcourse) when in the game in the Command Console "F1"
Keybinds
Keybind followed by description of what the keybind does :

Type in : bind q forward;sprint

When in game - Press Q to auto-run, press Shift and W to cancel
Description : This will make you auto run which saves you holding down the Letter W on the keyboard. This is handier for you if your using other keys to look your surroundings when continuing moving forward.

Type in : bind z attack;duck

When in game - Press Z to permanently crouch and auto-attack, press Left Click and Control to cancel
Description : This is helpful which will make you auto attack if your raiding and using spears for example to destroy a wall , you can simply press Z and it will autoattack for you and all you need to do is equip new spears.

Type in : bind z +attack;+duck

When in game - Hold Z to crouch and auto-attack (only while pressed)
Description : This is helpful which will make you auto attack if your raiding and using spears for example to destroy a wall , you can simply press Z and it will autoattack for you and all you need to do is equip new spears.

Type in : bind c duck

When in game - Press C to permanently crouch, press Control to cancel
Description : This is helpful when you are sneaking around a base or monument and you need to use other keys to move around e.g to look behind etc

Type in : bind 0 forward;sprint;jump

When in game - Press 0 to auto-swim, press Space + Shift + W to cancel
Description : This is helpful if you need to swim a long distance which allows you to afk

Type in : bind mouse1 +lighttoggle;+attack2

When in game - Bind Light Toggle to Aim
Description : This will bind the button to toggle your light or laser attachment to your aim button, meaning that when you aim down sights your laser or flashlight will turn on. Extremely useful for nighttime PVP.

Key binds for modded servers

For modded servers, this can be useful

Type in : bind <key> "chat.say "/command""

Example When in game - : bind g "chat.say "/home 1""
Description : this will allow you to teleport to your base without having to type in /home 1

When in game - Select Key to Bind for map.
Type in : bind KEY chat.say "/map"

When in game - Select Key to Bind for teleporting home.
Type in : bind KEY chat.say "/home homeNAME"/

When in game - Bind for removing building structures (e.g walls).
Type in : bind KEY chat.say "/remove"

When in game - Select Key to Bind for Teleport.
Type in : bind KEY chat.say "/tpr friendNAME"/

When in game - Select Key to Bind for teleport accept.
Type in : bind KEY chat.say "/tpa"

When in game - Select Key to Bind for kits.
Type in : bind KEY chat.say "/kit"

In-Game Gestures/Emotes Keybinds
All keybinds can be added in-game or on the main game menu , All binds can be added to any keys but the most recommended keys to put your in-game gestures/emotes would be on your numpad if you have that (Numpad is the Numbers that would be placed on the far right hand side to your keyboard).

  • Type in : bind keypad0 "gesture wave"

  • Type in : bind keypad1 "gesture victory"

  • Type in : bind keypad2 "gesture hurry"

  • Type in : bind keypad3 "gesture thumbsup"

  • Type in : bind keypad4 "gesture shrug"

  • Type in : bind keypad5 "gesture chicken"

  • Type in : bind keypad6 "gesture whoa"

  • Type in : bind keypad7 "gesture hattip"

You can Copy-paste the keybinds & commands here and press Enter on your Keyboard (If you want too ofcourse) when in the game in the Command Console "F1"
How To Unbind A Key
To remove default Rust controls, press ESC, select Options and then choose Controls.

To remove a custom keybind, press F1 and type : bind <key> " "

Example: bind q " "
Client Commands
All commands can be added in-game or on the main game menu , All binds can be added to any keys but the most recommended keys to put your in-game gestures/emotes

Client Command followed by description of what the command does :

Type in : censornudity0 : Show nudity

Type in : censornudity1 : Censor nudity

Type in : combatlog : Show last 30 damage events (attacker, target, weapon, ammo, area, distance, old_hp, new_hp)

Type in : combatlog 100 : Show last 100 damage events (attacker, target, weapon, ammo, area, distance, old_hp, new_hp)

Type in : disconnect : Disconnect from server

Type in : fps.limit (number) : Set FPS limit

Type in : fps.limit -1 : Remove FPS limit

Type in : grass.displace true : Enable grass displacement (flattens grass when stepped on)

Type in : grass.displace false : Disable grass displacement

Type in : kill : Kill your character

Type in : music.info : Display music info (current song, intensity, next song)

Type in : ping : Show ping

Type in : perf 1 : Display FPS

Type in : perf 2 : Display FPS and latency

Type in : perf 3 : Display FPS, latency and RAM usage

Type in : perf 4 : Display FPS, latency, RAM usage and garbage collection

Type in : perf 5 : Display FPS, latency, RAM usage, garbage collection and ping

Type in : perf 6 : Display FPS, latency, RAM usage, garbage collection, ping and tasks

Type in : quit : Quit the game

Type in : streamermode 1 : Enable streamer mode

Type in : streamermode 0 : Disable streamer mode
Rust Updates
With Rust being consistently being updated their may be difference to Gun Damage , Explosive Damage , Item building/crafting costs and possibly new added content,so the guide will need to be updated.

Oh, Garreef, that's ok, but, you see, I really like the guide and I was just asking for help with a personal key preference, because I really don't know if this is possible. But ty @Iberico ! That will help :)

the gestures are getting updated this apr update, we will have a wheel to use... and also i would really discourage removing your fps limit... a link to the facepunch wiki keybinds section should be included, it has all of this plus more... and it's a WIKI:piggy:

To be honest , it be pointless as you will then have to move forward again using another key to make it stop and possibly in some situations may find yourself in a vulnerable situation ,

normally when i use the auto run "Q" i just press the forward "W" to quicken it up , surely that be better , so use Q to auto run to stop just quickly press your "W" and it will stop .

Thanks! Tell me one thing, is there any way to modify the bind of the auto-run to add the letter S to stop it aswell?
