Step 1
Download the Max Payne 2 FPS mod from Mod DB

Here is a link:
https://www.moddb.com/mods/fps-mod/downloads/fps-mod-original-version

Note:
This is the version that I used, but there is another version of the FPS mod on mod db. Feel free to try the other version and let me know what you think of it.

Step 2
Open the FPSmod.zip folder, inside is a .mp2m file labeled FPS_Mod.mp2m

Drag the file into the Max Payne 2 game directory folder.

Note:
An easy way to get there, is to right click on Max Payne 2 in steam, manage, and click browse local files.
Step 3
Now launch Max Payne 2.

There will be an option called choose customized game.

Click on the drop down and choose FPS_mod.

Click play.

Important:
Make sure you choose to start a new game once you add the mod, because if you choose to load a previously saved game, it will just load an un-modded game save, and will not work!

Note:
The mod isnt 100% perfect, there is a little bit of clipping through Max's head every now and then. But it is about 95% perfect. It is plenty good enough to enjoy the game, or even give you another reason to play through the game. I always wanted to play Max Payne in first person and always wondered why it wasnt just an option in the game. Well now it is!

Cheers! You gave me another reason to play one of my favorite games again, for the third time this year (must be close to 50 overall but I didn't count). Since 2003 it never once occurred to me that maybe I should try some mods for Max Payne 2, it was that good to begin with.

Good to know that FPS mode will start on a new lvl for a previous save, thanks for sharing that. And yeah its not perfect ha, but its good enough to have fun thats for sure! You actually notice quite a few things, that you dont notice in third person, at least for me. ha.

Thanks, it's working fine! You can even continue your previous save, but it won't be in first person until you reach a new level. (I was already halfway into Hard-Boiled and didn't feel like starting over so I tried it, completed the rest like this.)

The imperfections are due to it being a TPS originally and this mod merely moves the position of the camera, so in certain cases the head can be seen. (Backward / side rolls are awkward, too.) Like you mentioned, it doesn't distract as much as the new perspective can add to an otherwise familiar game.

Since it doesn't have a separate view model, it uses the same poses / animations which sometimes result in the weapon not being visible until you look down or fire (due to how they're being held). On the other hand it feels more natural, the character has a body with legs, actually uses its arm to interact with objects (buttons, phones, drawers etc.) and generally functions well enough despite clearly not being developed with this in mind.
