The tModLoader Duplication Glitch

Do you feel like you're grinding too much while playing with your friends? Do you spend too much time getting basic resources instead of having fun playing the game? Well, there is a certain glitch in the multiplayer of tModLoader (and all Terraria 1.3 worlds) that can let you skip all of that grinding, no mods required!

The Glitch Itself

In case you're in a hurry and just want an explanation on how to do the glitch, here is what you need:



1 chest of any kind
2 item frames
4 bars of any kind
1 workbench of any kind

Finally, at least 2 of any item you want to duplicate (they must be able to stack)
Some of my suggestions are ores, wood, potions, or souls.

The Setup

You will need at least an open 4 long by 5 tall area without any background walls and without any moving or growing objects nearby, such as a grassy ceiling where vines could grow. I recommend just using an area on the surface.

First, place the 4 bars in a square on top of one another



Next, place a chest on top of the bars and break the bottom 2 bars



Then, place the workbench below the 2 remaining bars



Break the chest and replace it with one of the item frames



Break the BOTTOM RIGHT corner of the workbench, breaking it anywhere else will not work



Finally, Place the other item frame below the now floating item frame. This second item frame should be supported by the floor and not by a background wall or the item frame above it. When placing, it should look like the second picture. There should be no chains like in the first picture



If everything worked correctly, the top item frame should fall off and appear in your inventory, while at the same time remaining placed in the world. Clicking on the top item frame with 2 or more of an item at the same time should now give you back more items than you put in.

Advice and Precautions

This glitch ONLY WORKS IN MULTIPLAYER. For singleplayer, there is a related glitch that you can look up online yourself, this guide is already a bit long.

Some might consider this glitch cheating, but i like to think of it more as a 1.3 version of Journey Mode. If you have proved you can get 2 or more of an item, then that probably means you could get a lot more with enough grinding. So, instead of grinding, why not just duplicate what you already have? Especially when playing with friends, grinding for Chlorophite ore or fishing to make Endurance potions just isn't all that fun. Modded materials could also be difficult to get. Grinding for 2 hours to get Unholy Essence in Calamity, for example, can really take the fun out of it.

The top item frame is very unstable and will disappear if anything touches it. Vines growing from a grassy ceiling, ice rod blocks, placing blocks, and opening things like trapdoors all remove the top item frame. It's okay though, as it is quick to set up again and the actual thing in your inventory inventory item frame is not lost.

I like to keep a chest next to my item frames to hold all of the things I need to do the setup. If you want to remove the setup, just break it with a pickaxe,

Although the game does just crash when you try and break the first two bricks, you can actually use this to dupe in a multiplayer world. If you have someone leave and join the game (not the owner of the world) with the items you want to dupe, place it all in a chest and attempt to break it. The items will still be in the chest for the owner, and they can take them out. And when friend joins back after crashing, the stuff will still be in their inventory!

This is a brilliant example of breaking a fix for a previously exploited break.
