Quick Start
For a quick start to this flawed but atmospheric game :
  • When you start the game, walk downhill to the lake. You'll see your first green flashing crystal on the east side of the lake. It's a fishing rod.
  • Catch some fish, then head to the south side of the lake where you can get the compass and your first map.
  • Continue round the lake then follow the stream out of it on the north side. Shortly, you'll come across the bow. Note that this area is a good area for tinder which you can use to cook the fish.
  • Follow the stream until it ends, then turn slightly left until you reach a lake.
  • Now follow the water on the north side until it ends, then head west. Eventually you'll arrive at Old Town.
  • From Old Town, it's up to you. Olympia is further west, there are some binoculars by a pylon to the north, or just follow the bird.

Washington State Today
For fun, here is a map of the same area in the real world. Comparing the real map to the game :
  • The big mountain in the south is Mount Rainier
  • The spiky inlet west of Olympia seems to be Aberdeen Bay
  • This means you start the game somewhere north-west of Yakima and east of Mount Rainier.
  • The inverted 'V' on the shore between Olympia and Bellevue seems to be Tacoma (in real life, there are a number of 'fingers' there coming off the bay)
  • There is no bridge between Port Angeles and Victoria
  • The Totem Lake Mall mentioned in game exists in real life, but there is no tower https://eidolon.fandom.com/wiki/Totem_Lake_Malltower
  • In the game, the 5 running south out of Olympia ends at a shore with the remains of buildings. Probably either Centralia or Longview
  • Only Lake Whatcom, Lake Sammanish, and Lake Cavanaugh, Lake Ozette and Lake Cresent seem to match their real life counterparts

Thank you so much for making this map. It's excellent – informative and attractively designed in a way that's consistent with the visual style of the game. I'm glad to have explored Eidolon with just in-game clues, but it makes me very happy this exists.

Thank you! I just started playing last night, and I know that discovering places and maps are part of the challenge, (and I'll try not to use it -too- much) but it makes the game more fun and less frustrating, for me.

You're welcome :) If you're interested, I also made two Eidolon video wallpapers for 'Wallpaper Engine' :

After playing through this game twice to completion, what a joy to see this map. The things are in no way close to each other in relation to how they seemed in my head. So clear now. Thank you!
