The Ranking System

This is your starting Rank. It goes from 0-10. When you achieve a new Rank, you unlock new Clothes.
To increase your Rank, you need money , earned by playing Multiplayer Ranked Matches.

In a Player Match, the you earn DOES NOT remain in your virtual wallet, thus does not contribute to leveling up your Rank.
In a Ranked Match, the earned is kept, allowing you to increase your Rank, thus unlock new Clothing options.

You can view your earned balance at the Waiting Lobby of a match. How much more is needed for your next Rank can be viewed at the briefing, at the end of a Ranked Match.

Your rank carries over to other GTA IV DLCs like EFLC (TBOGT and TLAD), so you will automatically unlock new Clothes for them as well.

Creating a Ranked Match

Take out your phone in Singleplayer.
Go to
Select a gamemode of your choice, and start the match.

The truth behind this is the Matchmaker searches for a Ranked Gamemode you've chosen, and if it doesn't find one, it will create one for you.

This means only 1 Gamemode Ranked Match can exist at a time, unless it is full.
For instance, if you want to play Ranked Hangman's Noose, and there is already one created by someone else, you will join their Match, rather than creating your own.
If it is full, however, it will create your own Ranked Match for you, resulting in 2 Ranked Matches of the same gamemode.

$ Making Tips

The fastest way to earn is to play Ranked

With a good team, you can earn atleast $4500 per 3 minutes. That means, in an hour, you will get $90,000, which is enough to increase your Rank from 0 to 3.

Make sure the difficulty level is on HARD, as that grants the most as a reward for completing the mission ($4500). There is a lot of money dropped from downed NOOSE units too, so don't forget to pick those up as well.

To do it fast, get a NOOSE Van and pickup Kenny Petrovic with your team. Drive to the helicopter pads at the other end of the airport, where atleast 1 Annihilator will await you. Use it to get to the drop off point much faster. The difference is significant (takes around 3 minutes in total if using the helicopter, unlike 9 minutes when driving there, which will be an uneasy ride as well). Do NOT go by the car, unless your helicopter was destroyed. You will be losing on the opportunity to gain $9000 over those 6 extra minutes you took while driving the car.
I recommend 3 people for this mission, as the 4th one will be unnessecary due to the helicopter having only 4 seats, one of which will be occupied by Kenny Petrovic.
If everyone are on board, don't bother trying to make a safe landing onto the drop off point, as as soon as you touch it, the mission becomes completed.

Remember, money is litteraly time here, so always choose the fastest method to complete the mission.

I could not understand why everyone wastes their time playing on Player Matches, when they can enjoy their game AND unlock new clothes in the same time. For me, Ranked Matches are purely more beneficial than normal Player Matches. So I made this guide to encourage more people to create Ranked Matches. Hopefully, you've found it useful. Don't forget to rate!

Another thing to mention is that Windows Live is shutting down, and that means so does GTA IV Multiplayer. We do not know if Rockstar will move it to some other service, like Steamworks, but it is important to give them a message since they hate PC and its community.

@Christopher974 That would be rather hard! A lot of people like GTA V more than GTA IV - I am one of them. Plus, GTA V runs better than GTA IV, so I recommend you to get GTA V as well - the multiplayer and gameplay is better in my opinion.

No problem, I'm gonna get stuck to this game for years, I wish just to make it revive wish a bunch of players... can't say it impossible to find 31 people in the world to join my cause :D actually for the moment their is 1000 regular GTAIV players, and only 100 use the original game... but... with social networks, friends, youtube etc, we can make people like what we do and turn back to GTAIV if their is a good fun for it :)

I did Ranked Match on Xbox360 for one month on Hangman's NOOSE, I get $ 4'750'000 Level 9 in no time... as you say it'd quick but it kills all the Ranked Match legit :( I want to get it back. I'm looking for player to play fair with me on GTAIV

@Christopher974 Good luck! Hangman's NOOSE is just my recommendation. You can play however you want - just as long as its a ranked match.

Hello, I still play Ranked Match in Multiplayer, but I don't farm the Hangman's NOOSE, I prefer do all of them, with different settings, change all time, I'm about to takes years to do it.
