Zane Spy Build (Mayhem 10) - Skill Tree + Gear Guide

This is a build guide for Zane, the Operative. It utilizes the 4th skill tree from the Designer's Cut. Credits to Moxsy for creating this build. This guide is just to make it more accessible, brief and straight to the point.

Build Overview
This build is a brief telling of Moxsy's Double-0 Build for Zane, it uses the 4th skill tree and the 'Spy' Class Mod to create a build with high mobility and ridiculous survivability, leaving your weapons to deal with the DPS.

Under Cover (The Green Tree)
Action Skill 1: Barrier
Augment A: Charged Relay
Augment B: All-Rounder

Not many points will be thrown here, just enough to get Distributed Denial but mainly to get All-Rounder, an important augment in most builds that have Barrier equipped.

Brainfreeze will also be great for Critical Hit emphasis, which you'll be aiming for frequently in this build.

Distributed Denial is good if you want to go by-the-books and use some cheeky gear synergy with the Barrier. Not required but fun to experiment with, it only needs one point so it's worth having if you want to be creative. If not, take it out and redistribute it elsewhere.
Hitman (The Blue Tree)
Action Skill Unused

The Hitman tree is essential for Zane builds with big mobility and DPS since lots of the Kill Skills give buffs for both. This'll be a tree worth heavily investing in either before or after The Professional if you're starting from Level 1, it's your call.

Violent Speed and Violent Momentum is the classic 10-point duo to kick off this tree. High speeds equal high damage, leading to a vicious cycle of speedy kill skills.

Salvation is essential here since you won't be throwing any points into the Doubled Agent tree for Donnybrook's health regeneration. Ironically, only give it a few points since it'll far surpass the health gating requirements as long as you're also dishing out consistent damage. Give or take points depending on how quickly you're going down.

Good Misfortune only needs one point just so you have the function of regaining skill duration, you don't need more points into it since the Spy Class Mod is more than capable of boosting this skill up to insane potential.
The Professional (The Purple Tree)
Action Skill 2: MNTIS Shoulder Cannon
Augment A: Colder Shoulder
Augment B: Proliferation

Man of Focus will be very helpful for balancing out the accuracy loss for sprinting around and jumping all the time, allowing you to score more crits you'll be needing to get.

Fugitive has very good synergy with the Violent Speed/Momentum combo. Keep the speeds and skills active!

Déjà Vu, Headman's Hand, Domino Effect, and Eraser all feed into the Critical Hit emphasis that this build revolves around. Always be aiming for heads, if that wasn't clear from the start.

Our Man Flynt is a skill that seems really out-of-place when paired with Zane's several skills involving high speed since aiming down your sights disables sprinting. Having the extra damage is really good for only one point into the skill, so try jumping during a sprint to keep the high speed before you aim down sights to cancel out the loss in momentum.
Gear Requirements and Recommendations
Weapons

Some really obvious choices here. This build is fantastic if you don't feel like grinding very specific gear to make it work. Try anything, it'll probably perform well. If you want some recommendations for melting and/or just having fun, take some of these for a spin.

Weapon
Notes
Hellwalker
Always Incendiary. If a build can't be run without a Hellwalker, then it probably isn't fun. Having a high reload speed from Cool Hand makes this Jakobs shotgun shine.
Light Show
Any Element. An obvious choice here. This weapon shreds and melts. Zane's Playing Dirty skill makes this weapon just disgusting. Having all those projectiles combined with Barrier's amp shots will blind your screen.
Plasma Coil
Shock-Radiation. Very similar to the Light Show, but a little less fun from being burst-fire instead of fully automatic. Arguably out-performs, though.

Shield
The Beskar is a great choice here for the synergy with Distributed Denial on your Barrier. Also just has a good effect on its own. If you don't feel like farming or running this shield, just pop on the ole' faithful, Old God.










Class Mod
Obviously we're using the Spy class mod here. It ties this whole build together from its legendary effect. When it comes to the rolls on Skill Boosts, try and aim for getting +1 into Our Man Flynt, then getting as many as you can (up to +4) with Commitment for the sweet extra Gun Damage.












Relic
The Victory Rush is useful for its bonus Movement Speed and Damage after killing a badass. Try shooting for an Ice Breaker variant since Zane will be dishing out lots of Cryo damage.














Grenade
You'd think this wouldn't matter, and it doesn't really, but if you want to go above and beyond with your take on this build, getting an Anointed grenade with an Action Skill End effect would give a second-hand contribution from how much you'll be popping off action skills.

Yeah I havent been into the game very much lately after pouring so much time into it for years. I might make a new one next time I revisit this game!

Thanks for the hard work! If only I could get advice on what skills to use while going from 1-72. Nobody has current builds out and it's kind of aggravating figuring it out from scratch

Yeah really hard to mess up any Zane build right now. Any combination of skills or weapon usually shreds regardless

Thanks for posting this for others.I would advise only doing 1 point in salvation outside of the path to leveling...because we are going to be doing so much damage with barrier up you would just be throwing away points. obviously the builds still gonna work and I wouldn't think you'd be locked down to the specfic guns either. so much is viable at this time thankfully
