Introduction
While the mods manual provides a great deal of information, these are the features I found the most useful as a player, predominantly on the http://chaosgaming.gg/ servers.

This mod has a huge amount of configuration, so some features may be disabled or generation rates changed on other servers. If you are setting up your own server, adding to single player, or just want more in depth details, definitely check out the official complete guide.

I also have a video guide for this mod: https://youtu.be/JMTB6jubBZo

Soul Traps
These are the items that can store dinosaurs, very much like Poké Balls. You can store your dino into an empty one, and then throw it back out!

The increased versatility and general availability early on in the game mean that these essentially replace the ARK Cryopods.

Soul Gun
Having trouble staying near enough your dino to trap it with the soul ball, or swapping items to quickly trap several? The soul gun has you covered providing a ranged option with auto-reload.

Soul Terminal
An incredibly useful automation item. As well as providing storage, provides many of the benefits of having dinos left out to wander, while keeping them safe and being compact, and more! From egg laying to keeping farms stocked with fertiliser!

Soul Finder
Can't remember where you put your dino? The soul finder will rescue you!

Soul Trap
These are the items that can store dinosaurs, very much like Poké Balls. You can store your dino into an empty one, and then throw it back out!

Plus you don't need to worry about feeding your trapped dinos! And mating interval timers will continue to count down while trapped.

When you first craft them you will get a stackable version. So firstly you need to use E "Convert" to get a single empty trap.

With an empty (white) soul trap equipped, left click while aiming at a nearby dino to trap it. Then with a full trap left click to throw it out.

Depending on server settings, when you trap a dino it may drop any items in its inventory as an Item Cache bag.

The icon of an occupied trap will show the dino it contains (although many mod dinos just show a "?" unfortunately), and the colour indicates its gender; pink for female, blue for male, and orange if it doesn't have a gender. If you hover over it in your inventory the tooltip will display various details about the contained dino.

Actions
Equip: In your inventory you can use the "E" Use key to equip a soul trap without moving it to your hotbar, as with tools.

Drop: If you want to drop a soul trap without releasing the dino, use the "O" Drop key in your inventory. This can be useful for passing dinos to other players.

Equip an empty soul trap: If you are holding an occupied soul trap, hold the "R" Reload key switch to an empty one.

Equip a specific soul trap: If you are holding any soul trap, and want a specific dino, press the "Ctrl" Melee key, then select the dino to equip from the radial menu.

Soul Gun
Simply shoot any tame you own to soul trap it from a distance! Soul traps are not consumed if you miss.

Since this just needs a single click, has a lot more range, and stays nicely in the hot bar, the soul gun is a very useful utility as soon as you are able to get it.

The range and ease of spamming also makes this ideal to try and save a dino that is being killed, especially if you would not be able to get close safely to try and ride it or use a basic soul trap.

Equip a specific soul trap: As when holding a soul trap, the "Ctrl" key will show a radial menu allowing quick selection of any occupied soul traps currently in your inventory.
Soul Finder
Sure you put your trapped dino somewhere but can't find it?

With the soul finder equipped the Left Mouse Button (Primary Attack) will bring up a GUI allowing to search for souls near by, except for those currently held within a players inventory.

The second screen lists all the found souls and is searchable.

Hovering over a soul will display on the right information about it, in addition to the normal soul trap information it lists the name of the inventory currently storing it.

Clicking on any soul will instantly transport it to your personal inventory.
Soul Terminal
An incredibly useful automation item. As well as providing storage, provides many of the benefits of having dinos left out to wander, while keeping them safe and being compact, and more! From egg laying to keeping farms stocked with fertiliser!

Plus you don't need to worry about feeding your trapped dinos!

The availability of some options may be controlled by the server admin. I am just going to cover the main ones, but in general any dino that can generate resources will work here. The resource generation rate should be the same as for that dino normally, and modified by mate boosting etc.

The default setting of 300 per poop type will quickly fill the soul terminal preventing it from doing anything else, so I would recommend you reduce the limits. Initially you might choose an amount to fill a compost bin manually, but if you add a Dung Beetle then you just need a few units for it to process. Unfortunately there does not be a way to limit eggs and other items, so you may need to occasionally clear the terminal out if it gets full.

Poop and Passive Item Generation
Gather poop and other items without having to go around picking it up!

Poop Generation: Poop which can be converted into fertiliser.
Misc Poop Generation: Other poop items (dropped in world) that can not be converted to fertiliser, e.g. snail paste.
Passive Generation: Items generated within the dinos inventory, e.g. basilosaurus oil.

Fertiliser Generation - Farming Automation
Going one step further, if you add Dung Beetle souls, they will convert the poop being laid into fertiliser, and then the terminal can place that fertiliser into nearby crop plots!

The default limits will likely quickly fill the terminal. Generally only a few spare fertilisers need to be stored, and a few within each crop plot.

If you have S+, this will largely be all you need for farm automation since you can use the S+ pull feature to retrieve the complete crops directly from the plot.

Egg Generation
Very useful for collecting eggs for kibble, and nearly essential with the Primal Fear mod.

Female dinos will lay unfertilised eggs at their normal rate. Having a male dino of the same type, and an oviraptor will boost the egg laying rate.

Breeding Aids
The soul terminal also comes with a few options that are incredibly useful when breeding dinos.

Enable Breeding
Quickly enable breeding on nearby released dinos. Handy if you are mass breeding so don't have to enable them individually!

Fertilised Egg Collection and Incubation
Breeding but don't want to hang around to pick up the egg and make sure it is safely incubated?

Enable this and the soul terminal will grab any nearby eggs that are laid, and then incubate them until they are ready to hatch. Then you just need to throw the egg down to hatch it.

Newborn auto-trap
Breeding dinos that have live birth but don't want to hang around?

Enable this and add empty soul traps to the terminal. As soon as a dino gives live birth or an egg hatches, the soul terminal will trap it

Note: With default settings, including those on ChaosGaming, dinos will not mature or imprint while stored in a soul trap, you will still need to release them. Depending on other mods you have installed you might look at items such as the S+ Nanny (feed plus auto-imprint), S+ Mutator (with growth pulse) or FMK Growup Paste (instant grow and full imprint).

Additional Soul Options
Selecting a soul in the terminal enables a few additional buttons in the centre panel.

Transfer Soul: Send the selected soul to another Soul Terminal.
Destroy Selected Soul: Destroy the selected soul, has a warning against accidental use.
Additional Options: Presents a menu to neuter/spay or rename the dino without first releasing it.

What is the number that usually appears as (0) but occasionally there is a number after the slash to the right of a stat point?

anyone know why mating cooldown resets every time i open the soul terminal?
Chief 27 aug, 2023 @ 17:52
Absolutely. I use separate terminal for each tier of eggs. Don't have to. But they do produce well. Slow at first, but then works great
Sir Grubselot 27 aug, 2023 @ 16:33
does it collect eggs from primal fear, such as alpha eggs?

hello, does anyone know what is the shortcut that must be modified so that all the dinos that we have in balls in the inventory appeared? Thank you very much, regards
