Deus Ex 1 - Codes & Secrets

This Guide contains Codes & Secrets in DX1, both PC & PS2 Versions.

1. PC Codes - Setting Up

The file is called 'user.ini' and it is in your system folder of your deusex root folder (ie, C:DeusExSystem). Open this in any Text editor, notepad should be alright. Once opened, search for 'T=', this should be in a section called '[Engine.Input]'. Once found, you need to edit its value to 'Talk', to do this, after the =, type 'Talk', so it should now look like this:

T=Talk

Now go into the game, press the 'T' button. You will see the followong at the bottom left of the screen:

You will need to press backspace till you remove the 'Say', so its just '>' now.
Now you will need to type the following:

Set DeusEx.JCDentonMale bCheatsEnabled True.

Now press enter, nothing will appear, but you have just activated cheats.
Because you will need to redo this for every level, you can open up 'user.ini' and add 'bCheatsEnabled True' in the [DeusEx.DeusExGameInfo] section of the file to allow cheats to be activated forever.

Toggles God Mode On/Off = God
10,000 Credits = allcredits
Activates EMP Field = iamwarren
All Basic Augmentations = allaugs
All Skill Points = allskillpoints
All Weapons = allweapons
Brings Up Secret Menu = legend
Full Energy = allenergy
Full Health = allhealth
Kills Current Target = tantalus
Levels all skills to MASTER = allskills
Refills Ammo = allammo
Skip to Level = open xxxx (xxxx being name of level)
Spawn Object = summon xxxx (xxxx being name of object)
Spawns Multiple Objects = spawnmass xxxx # (xxxx object name, # amount)

4. PC Codes - Augmentation Titles

Use one of the following augmentation titles with the augadd code.
Note: Some augmentations will overwrite the position of existing augmentations.

6. PS2 Codes - Omgea Clearance Code

This Code works If you're playing the PS2 Version of Deus Ex 1.

Press SELECT during the game,
Press L2, R2, L1, R1, START 3x to unlock OMEGA CLEARANCE.

The Cheats Tab in the PS2 Version features:
- GOD Mode
- Full Health
- Full Ammo
- Full Energy
- All Mods
- All Skills
- Max Credits
and the Tantalus Device

7. PC & PS2 - Game Endings

Helios - "Merge With Helios"
Merge with Helios by deactivating the uplink locks on the Aquinas Router;
do not kill Bob Page or destroy the Aquinas Router.

Morgan Everette - "Join Illuminati"
Kill Bob Page by shutting down his defense and life support systems;
do not merge with Helios or destroy the Aquinas Router.

Tracer Tong - "New Dark Age"
Destroy the Aquinas Router by shutting down the reactor coolant system;
do not kill Bob Page or merge with Helios.

8. PS2 Secret - Keep items & weapons after detainment

When the screen says: "Area Unknown, Time Unknown", press [] & drop all of your items,
and pick them up after a few seconds. Must be exact on timing. You'll be able to keep the Items & Weapons you had before being tossed into the MJ12 Detention Center.

9. PC/PS2 Verison - Inventory Space & Differences

In the PC Version of Deus Ex, it uses a Grid Inventory System.

But In the Playstation 2 version, you have 9 Inventory Slots throughout the game:
5 Weapon Slots (1 for Low Tech)
1 Demolition Slot
1 Medical Slot
1 Tool Slot
1 Misc Slot

Also, your HP Changes on Depending on your Starting Difficulty Level
in the PS2 Version of Deus Ex:
400HP on Easy
300HP on Normal
200HP on Hard
100HP on Realistic

[Shadow Death™®]

An easy way to enable cheats in this game is to add -hax0r to the command arguments.

If you do that then you don't have to worry about the "Set DeusEx.JCDentonMale bCheatsEnabled True" command not working if you change your character name or if the game just wants to be finicky.

I feel like it may be working but not really because I put in the codes right and it doesn't do anything. I put them in wrong and it says Unrecognized Command. I tried it multiple times and I've come to the conclusion that my game is just not processing them or something

So, I must be as dumb as Donkey Dung because I've tried every way and it's not working for me. I put in the "Set DeusEx.JCDentonMale bCheatsEnabled True" and it tells me "Unrecognized Command" or some crap. I even added the little line in the user file and I'm just lost.

How to do it in case of original digital PC Steam re-released Deus Ex 1 GOTY?

Dunno if it works on this version, but an old PC version I had, fairly near the end of the game, you can get infinite XP. Gary Savage gives you something, I think an aug upgrade egg, before you board a helicopter. If you have no room in your inventory, you'll say so, "just have to drop something". Then ask Gary again.

But if you don't make room in your inventory, you can repeat the sequence over and over. And each time he makes his speech, you get, I think, 500XP. You can run this over until your XP is full and all your skills leveled up.

Also when your rifle skill is fully powered up, a 30.06 bullet is as good as a rocket for breaking open doors and destroying cameras, etc. Saving valuable rocket ammo! I still keep the rocket anyway, because launching white phosphorous at people is a funny and effective way of dealing with them, good when you're in your brother's hotel room and the weirdoes start attacking. That'll put 'em on the back foot!

At Vanderberg, where you hit a switch, on a furnace looking thing, the switch goes dim, then lit. I think it had a dead guy inside. Keep hitting that switch, you get 100xp each time. Now, you can get all the XP you'd ever want. #GlitchExploit

That same trick works in the PC GOTY edition too :)

You can defeat any lock or keypad with only 1 tool, even on the lowest skill tier I've never seen this trick posted anywhere. Simply start to pick any lock, or hack any keypad, and hit your inventory screen button. Wait an appropriate amount of time for the difficulty of the hack or pick, and go back to the game. The percentage drops when inventory is pressed and you can defeat anything with only 1 tool use, and negate the need to waste xp on levelling up lockpick and electronics. You're welcome :)
