If its 2.5, I don't recall what level that area was balanced for. Jacksawjack has a lets-play on youtube of that version. It works well as a general Guide. BTW, Jacksawjack is current posting the 3.0 Lets-play.
Also, sorry for the delay in response. Life has been very, very busy lately.
Is this intentional or am I misunderstanding something? Do I need more cards before I can agree to play against the NPCs? Will they not play if I use a wagered card in my deck? If I need the wagered card not in deck and also need a full deck perhaps the NPCs could say "You don't have a full deck" or "You can't use a deck with the wager in it".

Schizo Quest 2.5 saves are not compatible with Schizo Quest 3.0.
