How to speed up travel and cutscenes
By Mart
Mass Effect 1 is a brilliant game, but it also has its issues. The planet exploration missions are interesting, still the velocity of the Mako (armored fighting vehicle) is a way too slow for large areas.

If you are sick of the velocity of the Mako or the elevator takes too long, then I have a solution for you:

Go to the following folder: C:\Users\YOURNAME\Documents\BioWare\Mass Effect\Config

Open up BIOInput.ini with an editor

Search for [BIOC_Base.BioPlayerInput] and Copy/Paste the following line after the first one:

Bindings=(Name="MiddleMouseButton",InputMode=BIO_INPUT_MODE_NONE,Command="SloMo 10 | OnRelease SloMo 1",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False)

and save BIOInput.ini

You are now able to speed the game speed while holding the middle mouse button. Exploring new planets is now a bit better and you can skip those endless elevator scenes.

For those using the Mass Effect Legendary Edition, the speedup coding above applies and works for ME1 and ME2.

However for ME3 it uses a BioInput.xml instead of BioInput.ini.

From the BioInput.xml, find the section sfxgame.bioplayerinput and add this line:
<Property name="bindings">
<Value type="2">(Name="MiddleMouseButton",Command="SloMo 10 | OnRelease SloMo 1",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False</Value>
</Property>

After saving BioInput.xml, when you compile it to Coalesced.bin using the CSD Coalesced Compiler tool (inside Legendary Explorer via ME3Tweaks mod Manager), make sure the source path is <your install path>\Game\ME3\BioGame\CookedPCConsole\Coalesced\Coalesced.xml

CONTINUING MY PREVIOUS COMMENT

8) As Source, browse <your install path>\Game\ME1\BioGame\CookedPCConsole\Coalesced_INT.bin
9) Click Convert
10) Edit BioInput.ini in the newly created <your install path>\Game\ME1\BioGame\CookedPCConsole\Coalesced_INT folder (put the new line under [SFXGame.BioPlayerInput], don't forget to save)
11) Back in Coalesced Compiler, change the Source path to <your install path>\Game\ME1\BioGame\CookedPCConsole\Coalesced_INT.\mele.extractedbin
12) Click Convert again
13) Replace <your install path>\Game\ME1\BioGame\CookedPCConsole\Coalesced_INT.bin with <your install path>\Game\ME1\BioGame\CookedPCConsole\Coalesced_INT\Coalesced_INT.bin

@DatFrogKurtis it's a bit more difficult in Legendary Edition, because the BioInput.ini file is inside a custom archive. You'll need the ME3Tweaks Mod Manager to unpack it and re-pack after editing.
1) Download the latest ME3TweaksModManagerExtractor(...).exe from this location:
https://github.com/ME3Tweaks/ME3TweaksModManager/releases
2) Download and install .NET5 Desktop Runtime (x64 version) from here:
https://dotnet.microsoft.com/download/dotnet/5.0
3) Open ME3Tweaks Mod Manager
4) Launch Tools -> Legendary Explorer (Nightly)
5) Browse your MassEffectLauncher.exe in the last row and then Continue
6) Select "Extract & Repack" in the ribbon menu
7) Launch the "CSD Coalesced Compiler" tool

This saves a ton of time! Does anyone know if you can do this with legendary edition? The BioInput.ini file doesn't appear to be in the same place.

Amazing Guide! Thanks!

They could have made this game have a rating of 99% if the devs had this option in the first place.

Also, to make game start faster, go to <YourSteamFolder>\Mass Effect\BioGame\CookedPC\Movies and rename following files:

BWLogo.bik
db_standard.bik
ME_EAsig_720p_v2_raw.bik

The easiest way is to add "~" character at the start of each file name.
