How to make the Missile Launcher basically your Primary fire!
By Octagonus Squidwardus
This guide will show you how to use the Disposable Missile Launcher and how many Fuel Cells you need to have missiles firing CONSTANTLY. Please note that the artifact of command will be used here. It's not impossible to achieve this without artifacts but you would have to be very lucky and it's mostly a meme build anyway.

Disposable Missile Launcher & Fuel Cells
Disposable Missile Launcher
Disposable Missile Launcher is an orange (equipment) item which fires 12 missiles on use which deals 12x300% damage and has a Proc Coefficient of 1.

Fuel Cells
Fuel Cells are a green (uncommon) item which gives you an additional equipment charge and reduces equipment cooldown by 15% per stack.

The idea is to get enough Fuel Cells to reduce the cooldown of the Disposable Missile Launcher so you can constantly keep firing missiles.

The numbers
Each Fuel Cell will reduce the cooldown of your equipment by 15%

This is calculated by this formula
cooldown * (1 - 0.15) ^ amount
This essentially means that the percentage is always taken from the new value, not from the original cooldown.

So it's impossible to reduce the cooldown of your equipment by 100%
But we don't have to.

It takes 1.528 seconds for the final missile to appear on screen.

We only need to reduce the cooldown to under 1.528 seconds.

The Disposable Missile Launcher has a cooldown of 45s.
1.528 * 100 / 45 = 3.39555...%
We need to reduce the cooldown by 96.61% (rounded up)

Which we can achieve with 21 fuel cells.

But since 1.528 is the time the last missile appears on screen and not the moment when you are able to fire again and since we rounded some things up just to be sure 20 fuel cells is probably more than enough.
I took 22 in my run just to be sure.
Missile queue
The Disposable Missile Launcher can't be cancelled by anything.
Once you press Q it will fire 12 missiles no matter what.

When you press multiple times it will launch the second set of missiles after the first 12 are done.
This allows you to create a sort of missile queue.

Since Fuel cells also give you an additional equipment charge, you can just press 20 times and wait for all the missiles to fire.

So you don´t even have to keep pressing every 1.5 seconds.
Gesture of the Drowned
There is one more item that could make this whole thing easier.

Gesture of the Drowned
Gesture of the Drowned is a blue (lunar) item which reduces equipment cooldown by 50% (+15% per stack) and forces your equipment to activate whenever it is off cooldown.

The initial 50% cooldown reduction is really good but every stack after that only reduces the cooldown by a further 15% which is exactly the same as a Fuel Cell so there is no real point to stacking the item.

So how much less Fuel Cells can you take if you have Gesture of the Drowned?
The 50% reduction decreases the cooldown of your Disposable Missile Launcher from 45 to 22.5.
From there we can just apply the same calculations as before.
1.528 * 100 / 22.5 = 6.79%
We would have to reduce the cooldown by at least 93.21% which can be done with 17 Fuel Cells.

3-4 less Fuel Cells might not be that exiting but it's still a good boost and the best part of the item is that it activates your equipment automatically.

With Gesture of the Drowned you wouldn't even have to press Q anymore.

Setting up the run
You would want to turn on 3 artifacts:
  • Artifact of Command
  • Artifact of Sacrifice
  • Artifact of Swarms

This will allow you to choose your items and farm as much as you want.

Artifacts wiki page[riskofrain2.fandom.com]

You can do this with any character and on any difficulty.
But obviously you'll pick Monsoon because you're an epic gamer.

For the character I chose the Artificer with the Ion Surge ability so I can fly around while everything around me gets obliterated.

If you want to just go complete overkill you could pick MUL-T because he has 2 equipment slots.

But any character is viable since you don't need any specific abilities for this.
Picking up items
Obviously you want to get your hands on a Disposable Missile Launcher and 20-21 Fuel Cells.

Gesture of the Drowned is not required but will make thing easier by reducing the Fuel Cells you need to 17 and automatically activating your equipment.
If you can get a lunar item then definitely pick up a Gesture of the Drowned.

But you can't blow everything up with missiles if you're dead.
Stack up on Tougher Times to block some damage and make sure you have some source of healing.

Increasing your damage also can't hurt.
Try to get 10 Lens-Maker's Glasses for 100% Critical Strike chance effectively doubling your damage.
If you have enough Critical Strike chance then Harvester's Scythes are a reliable source of healing.

Example runs
Here is my run with Gesture of the Drowned and 17 Fuel Cells:

Here is one with 22 Fuel Cells:

Conclusion
While being more of a meme build it is extremely powerful and can absolutely annihilates Mithrix on Monsoon as you can see from my runs.

However, you probably won't pull this off without the Artifact of Command.
So it's not really a legit strategy.

But it is really fun.

yeah capacitor is probably way better to be honest
but idk missiles just sounded fun

Also, with Gesture + Capacitor, you gain the ability to smite anything you so much as glance at.

How big can the missile queue get before you crash the game?

Cool Build bro! I'll for sure try this later

It's basically is the same but Swarms divides the chance by 2 which makes sense as there are twice more enemies. However, the drop chance can not be less than 5%.
Beetles and Lesser Wisps have a drop chance of 5% which stays at 5% even with Artifact of Swarms. Jellyfish and Lemuriens have a drop chance of 7.9% which gets reduced to 5 but is overall still an increase as there are twice as many enemies.

Artifact of Swars doesn't really do much for most enemies but it does really help with small enemies which will boost your early game by a lot.

As far as I know it isn't really based off XP gain. Each monster has a different chance to drop something based off their difficulty (see wiki for all drop rates) and the rarity always stays the same.

The normal drop chance is calculated with this formula:
0.05 * Log2(Max(1, Floor(creditCost * rewardMultiplier)) + 1)

And the drop chance whith Artifact of Swarms is calculated with this formula:
0.05 * Log2(Max(1, Ceil(Floor(creditCost * rewardMultiplier) / 2)) + 1)

you shouldn't use sacrifice and swarm. swarm reduces xp gains per enemy by half, while sacrifice bases item drop chance/rarity off XP gained

do not attach any clovers to this kind of build, once you have a damage source you cannot control clovers will cause things like AGT to fire wildly, potentially causing games to crash.

I thought about using Soulbound Catalyst but decided not to.
While you should pretty consistently get around 1 kill per use of the Disposable Missile Launcher, the problem comes when there aren't enough enemies.
If you're doing Mithrix there just aren't enough enemies do activate the effect.
But if you're going to obliterate or just want to go as long as you can then it could reduce the fuel cell amount to only 13 and that's without a Gesture of the Drowned.
So it is pretty good but just doesn't work for everything.
Catman Jan 24, 2021 @ 5:44pm
Got room for a Soulbound Catalyst? Equipment cooldown reduced by 4s (+2s per stack) on kills. Means it can actually perpetuate itself without the Fuel Cells or Gesture of the Drowned if it reliably kills
