Description
DSG 3020 was built by Toshiba in 1981, entering service in March of that year. The engine was first used to shunt in Wellington, and was first painted in the Fruit Salad livery. It wasn't until the late 1990's when the class was fitted with shunter's refuges. These are small frame extensions at both ends of the locomotive, which allow the driver to stand outside the cab and operate the locomotive by means of a remote control box. As an aside, the numbers of all 24 DSG's are as follows:

DSG 3020 remained in the Fruit Salad livery right up until 2002, when she was repainted in Tranz Rail black. A few years after this, the locomotive spent most of her time shunting at the Sulphur Point container terminal in Tauranga. She was still running here in 2011, when she was repainted in the KiwiRail livery.

Unfortunately 3020 was transferred to the South Island sometime between 2011 and 2016. She is still there today, and I last saw her at Timaru yard in November 2018. More recently - in November 2020 - the locomotive was released from an overhaul at Hutt Workshops, and is now looking very clean.
