BNSF ES44DC No. 7254 (H3 scheme)

7254 was built in 2009, and - coincidentally - has what was once the same number as a diesel locomotive in New Zealand. Said locomotive was DFT 7254, which is now DFB 7348.

Anyway, as you can tell from the re-skin’s title, BNSF 7254 is an ES44DC and not an ES44AC. The difference between the two is that the DC variant uses direct current traction motors instead of alternating current. In both cases the “ES” stands for G.E. Evolution Series and “44” stands for 4,400 horsepower.

BNSF have a large fleet of ES44DC’s, with a staggering 820 examples on their roster. 7254 is the 55th in that line-up, going by numerical order. BNSF’s ES44DC fleet is numbered from 7200 to 7920.
