CS:GO Guide to reducing Latency, Ping & Loss
By Jassinho
Are you suffering from high ping or packet loss while playing CS:GO? Are you a high-level player who wants to optimize the most his experience? Then this guide is written for you !

In this guide, I will try to explain you how to get the best out of your connection. I will also provide information for each tweak so you can understand what you are actually doing with your computer.

Console Commands
To begin, you need to set your Rates correctly. Incorrect rates can easily induce lag on a good connection. Here's an overview of the most important network commands:

  • rate
  • cl_cmdrate
  • cl_updaterate
  • cl_interp_ratio
  • cl_interp

rate:
This limits how much download bandwidth (net speed) CSGO uses in Bytes (each KB is 1024 Bytes). Default value is 80,000 and maximum value as capped at 786,432. You should always use the maximum value unless your internet speed is slower than 786 KB/s. You can test your internet speed here: http://speedtest.net/
If your internet speed is slower than 786 KB/s, deduct 10 KB/s from your maximum speed and use the result.
Suggested Value: rate "786432"

cl_cmdrate:
Suggested Value: cl_cmdrate "64"

cl_updaterate:
Suggested Value: cl_updaterate "64"

cl_interp:
Suggested Value: cl_interp "0"

cl_interp_ratio:
Suggested Value: cl_interp_ratio "1"

Windows Regedit Optimization
This next trick that I'm going to show you is less well known than the first one but this one made me go from around 20ms ping to around 10ms ping and a much smoother experience.
This tweak requires you to edit Windows Regedit values, but because everyone here is not an expert about that, we will use TcpOptimizer, a free program that edits everything automatically for you.

If you want more information about this tweak, it consists of disabling Nagle's algorithm from the registry, which will reduce your latency by a lot in most old games like CS:GO.
Nagle's algorithm: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nagle%27s_algorithm

1. To start, you'll need to download TcpOptimizer:
https://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php

2. Then, run the program AS ADMINISTRATOR and apply my settings:

3. Click "Apply changes" and restart your computer.
Network Card Optimization
If you have problems with your connection in CS:GO, these can also come from the configuration of your network card. I will now explain how to correctly configure your network card for CS:GO.

1. Open your network card settings by following this guide:
https://www.digit.in/features/tech/tweak-network-adapter-properties-networking-ethernet-wifi-vpn-45243.html

2. Change your DNS settings to mine (Google DNS):

3. Open your advanced network card settings and set everything to "disabled" except the settings down here:

Windows DOS Settings
The last step of this guide will be to apply Windows DOS settings that I made for CS:GO. These should give you a better fluidity in game and a smoother experience in general. I personally tried and edited the script to be 100% sure that these new applied system settings are safe to use.

If you want more information about what the script does, here is some documentation about what the script edits without damaging the system:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/administration/windows-commands/netsh
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_service

1. Download the script here: https://gofile.io/d/iyP5C0

2. Run the script as administrator and wait for it to complete all the steps then close the CMD window.

3. If you have any issue concerning the script, send me a message on Steam, I will answer as fast as I can.
Conclusion
I hope my guide helped some of you. I've put a lot of effort finding the perfect settings and coding an optimization script especially for this guide, so I would appreciate if some of you donate CS:GO skins to support me!
