Brightness in windowed mode fix

A simple quick and easy way to fix the brightness /extreme darkness in windowed mode.

The solution

So, I need to stream Deus Ex 1 for my work, but I noticed the game had an incredibly annoying brightness problem. When you switch to windowed mode (720p) which is needed for videostreaming, the game resets it brightness to EXTREME DARKNESS. You can push buttons and bars all you want, it aint going up again unless you play fullscreen. Searched for solutions and guides, lot of stuff and high-res mod downloads were offered. Which is all nice, but I just need the brightness back, nothing else.

I noticed the brightness works perfectly well in ''software rendering'' but fails in ''direct3d''. Problem is when you play in software-mode, Deus Ex simply refuses to play in 16:9 and anything higher than 800x600 (which is a needlessly dumb problem that could have been fixed by Eidos in a spare hour...). However, I have found a way to fool this annoying program :-)

Step 1: Start the game in software rendering (just pick it in the settings, it'll restart.
Step 2: Find DeusEx.ini and change the StartupFullscreen=True in StartupFullscreen=False
Step 3: Change the currently lower windowresolution in 720p or whatever other resolution you need
WindowedViewportX=1280
WindowedViewportY=720
WindowedColorBits=32
FullscreenViewportX=800
FullscreenViewportY=600
FullscreenColorBits=32
Step 4: Play the game!

Now it runs in the right brightness from software rendering, but in a higher resolution. Yay!

Warning: DO NOT TOUCH THE IN-GAME GRAPHICS SETTING. Nothing bad will happen, it will just
immeditaly return the screen to 640x480 :-)

great game, awful to nearly-rigged game mechanics. the company is no longer around but at least have the buying be responsible and update the fuppin problems with the game?! and don't use that tax right-off crap,its just an excuse to intentionally damage future markets.

Just install new renderer, it would solve the problem
