The flag of Cuba is the national flag of the Republic of Cuba, officially approved on may 20, 1902.

The flag is a rectangular panel with an aspect ratio of 1: 2, divided into five horizontal alternating blue and white stripes. At the shaft is an equilateral triangle of red color, in the center of which is a white star.

The flag, called "Lone star", was designed in 1848 by the editor of the newspaper "La Verdad" (from Spanish - " Truth») Miguel Tolon and General Narciso Lopez. The first copy of this flag was made by Emilia Tolon and is now stored in the Museum of the Revolution in Havana[1].

The flag was first raised on may 19, 1850 in Cardenas, after the landing of armed troops of General Lopez, who made an unsuccessful attempt to overthrow the power of the Spanish colonialists. American Newspapers supporting the annexation of Cuba, the Sun in new York and Delta in New Orleans, also raised this flag on their buildings[1].

in 1898, the United States began a war with Spain, in which they won. Cuba became dependent on the United States, and on January 1, 1899, the flag of Cuba became the flag of the United States.

On may 20, 1902, the Republic of Cuba was proclaimed, and the national flag of Cuba was officially raised over the fortress of El Moro.
