Pioneer locomotive

Pioneer was the first locomotive to run on the Chicago railroad in 1840 after being built in New York in 1837 and it was surprisingly easy to make. The piston either side is easy to connect up to the wheels, since I've done so many, so it was mainly just the bodywork! There's the typical 1800s American cow catcher, lamp and wide smoke stack at the front, while 2 wheels keep it on the rails either side. The boiler stretches along the body leading to the wide firebox and cab, which is above the drive wheel. Unlike typical later American trains, this one only has one pair of driving wheels rather than 2, which is odd but shows its age. The cab is tall enough for people to stand in while a couple of windows let you see out.

Top speed: 19 mph.

Crew: 1 - driver but space for probably 2 inside the cab.

W/S to drive.
H for front lamp.

Enjoy this new early locomotive! It was fun to make and the piston was thankfully easy to do after several difficult trains in the past so this was a nice change of pace!
