The Best Friend of Charleston was the first locomotive built in America and it was built in 1830. In 1831 its boiler exploded, killing the fireman because he screwed down the safety valve because the whistle was annoying him! The train looks very strange, but it certainly works! It has two pistons which move into the bottom of the loco and these are what powered it. The wheels are connected together with a rod each side and the boiler is vertically mounted. There's a tender being pulled behind it with some wood, while a carriage is also being pulled for passengers. It's in a nice green colour with red wheels and some other small details.

Top speed: an unrealistic 19 mph!

Crew: 1 - driver but space for 2 standing.

Controls:
W/S to drive.

Enjoy this new early locomotive! It's one of the flatter locos, since the boiler is mounted vertically at the rear of the thing, but it's also one of the most colourful! It's a strange design but with some engineering I managed to get it working!

Best friend of Charleston ay, is the reason its called best friend of CHARLESTON is because it operated in the Charleston South Carolina area because i feel like iv'e seen the replica of this loco in Charleston, but it could just be my memory out of whack.

Yeah, they were just sort of naming them whatever they wanted for the first few, because they were all just prototypes really.

It was kinda like the names got better as the trains got more advanced.

Yeah, it's a very strange name for something. Then again, there were a lot of silly names for things during this era.

The name is kinda wacko...
