Introducing the LX-2 "Valkyrie", the latest CV from Filbert Shipyards!

The Valkyrie is an end-game CV that has been inspired, style-wise, by the Kestrel Corsair (Which itself was largely influenced by Sulusdacor's Corvus Corvette). Featuring all of the functions required to take the fight to the enemy wherever they hide!

UPDATE: If you are looking for an endgame POI busting tank that is small enough to fit in the HV hangar on the Valkyrie i just posted my new Mastodon HT tank!
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2263063485

The LX-2 is similar to the LX-1 "Mjolnir" that i posted a few weeks ago but features some differences and many improvements (including a much cooler, in my opinion, appearance!). The LX-2 was designed around a slightly different approach than the LX-1. Where the LX-1 was designed to take a lot of damage in a drawn out slug-fest, the LX-2 "Valkyrie" has a lot more firepower to help finish the fight quicker, a needed change as the Valkyrie is a bit lighter in the armor department. The changes over the LX-1 mean that the Valkyrie not only packs a more powerful punch, it also is cheaper than "Mjolnir"!

The LX-2 "Valkyrie" is styled after my other recent builds (Mjolnir, Starstrider IV etc.) in the sort of 'Space PMC' look and feel. I used the same color palette and same angles and styling as the others in the series so the ships would all look like they belong to the same group of freelancers or mercs or PMC contractors.

I have only done limited playtesting (Im mostly recovered from cancer treatment so im back to work with less time for Empyrion...) but i was able to spawn the Valkyrie in survival singleplayer without mining sathium. I found a wrecked capitol vessel on a temperate planet that was made out of combat steel and used the structural integrity to break it down into an ample supply of sathium plates that went straight into the workshop! She flies great, hits hard and so far has been everything i could have hoped for! I will continue to playtest the Valkyrie and if i find any glaring issues i will update it! Feel free to offer any and all feedback, it is much appreciated.

UPDATE: Still playtesting; took out a few lightly armed freighters (no challenge), and an Imerat-class destroyer. The Valkyrie's stats say she has excellent roll but is a bit light on pitch. I have found (and this could just be my flight style) that if you are rolling even a little (or just moving on more than one axis at a time) the ship will pitch perfectly. The Valkyrie handles great and has been a joy to fly thus far. Came across one of the new Tovera-class Dreadnaughts. If you haven't come across them yet, give them a wide berth. These ships appear to be overloaded with turrets. Within about ten seconds of contact with the Dreadnaught my T2 shield was nearly wiped out (not a fault of the Valkyrie so much as a commentary on the over-powered nature of the Tovera...). I think that such a foe will require some new tactical thinking and a creative strategy... or a ship that just straight-up breaks the in-game artillery turret limits like Spanj's Gladiator (which is a BEAST).

As a new player to this game (vanilla), your designs are the ones that fill that no-nonsense utility while still being gorgeous look and feel. Thanks for all the work you put into these designs, man. They are magnificent. I'll hang in here to check out your designs, I'm addicted to them.

An awesome ship indeed, and I am no pro in RE conversion, but changing most of the inner structure to carbon to lighten up the ship SIGNIFICANTLY, as well as positioning a few less side thruster in the middle and instead position more side thrusters in the head and the tail -- these changes give much better RE control. I did not yet find out what to do with CPU but either the amount of guns/devices has to be lowered or the CPU has to be improved.

Basically a recipe to convert something to RE is: make it as light as possible, position thrusters as dictated by real physics (like, the farther the thruster is from the center of mass, the more torque it gives), and manage/reduce the CPU load. I've yet to learn more about all that as well.

Hi FF,
Would it be possible to do and upgraded version of this AWESOME vessel for Reforged Eden.
I cant seem to get my head around what is needed.
Also BIG fan of your works

Just wanted to throw in a comment here. You were right earlier about your ship. When I brought it up in creative mode it worked perfect. So I went back into the game and it loaded just fine. Have no idea what the illegal blocks was. :) Awesome ship! Thanks again!

One other minor thing: The core is located pretty far forward, and relatively unprotected. I havent gone toe to toe with the legacy with it, buy a concern would be that a breach in the bridge could open it up to an easy lag shot.

From what I can tell, I would agree with that assessment. The Mjolnir has a very robust bow that really has nothing vital. It can “park” and trade broadsides.

Both are great ships, but the Valk feels more like a home where the Mjolnir feels like a tool.

@ChumSickle Thanks! To be honest after spending a fair bit of time with both the Valkyrie and the Mjolnir i think the Mjolnir is the better ship for taking on endgame CV's as it can take the hits much better than teh Valkyrie, but man can that Valkyrie dish out the pain...

Howdy FF...you know I am a fan. Decided on the Valk as my first end game CV during my current play through and bro, I am a fan. You managed to maintain the well lived in "homey" feel of the Starstrider that I enjoyed so much while upping the ante in all regards. Navigating around the ship takes a bit of getting used to, but its an entertaining and interesting set up. I doubt I'll ever use most of the stuff, but the "marines quarters" is a cool touch.

As far as combat, I went after a Zirax corvette that had spaced me earlier in the game when I was in an SV and got too close. Long story short, the thing couldnt even bring down my shields. I took too long trying to remember where the core on the enemy ship was, and by the time I did, the Valk had chewed it up and spit it out. Just a floating pile of junk.

In short, this thing hits like a freight train, flies well, and is set up really well on the inside and >feels< like a good home.

@Ramar It will work just fine in SP if you have BP limits turned off. Not sure why a person playing SP would ever turn them on. Some MP servers do have BP limits turned on so it might not work with those...

Again, it works just fine in SP survival for me and i am using the latest version. You are the only person who has contacted me with this issue so i suspect it may be a problem with either your version or the server if you are playing co-op or pvp on a server with BP limits.

ohh, good answer. I think you might be right. It might have too many turrets for the SP mode. I tried to find if I could change it, but I can't. So, I think I agree with you. Thanks for the Response.
