Summary
The game was originally released on the 26th of November 1993 in the US and 1994 for the EU. The game was Sega Genesis also known as the Mega Drive in the EU. In rapid succession the game grew in popularity and was soon ported to various consoles.
==============================================================================
Stand Alone Releases
The beauty in this standalone table is that pretty much every release is the same game with no major modifications. The only one that was modified and not a port was the game gear release and that was based off of hardware limitations at the time.

Controls
============================================================================
Intro
To begin this was a game that was started on the Sega Genesis or Mega Drive. The game is a variation of tetris with a few twist. Before we get to in depth we will look at how the controls work.
============================================================================
Original Controller

It looks fairly simple and honestly it is. What you need to know for this game is as follows.

The directional pad; however only the standard four directions are required. This will move blocks around for you.

The start button. Will pause the game. Mind you when you pause all items on screen will dissapear to prevent cheating.

Button A, B, and C. They all do the same thing they rotate your piece.
============================================================================

Remapping

You are able to remap the entire controller before you launch the game in steam. You have the option of using a keyboard and mapping the keys as you would like. For this game it would take practice to do this on some of the harder stages.

You also have the option of using an recognized controller. I was able to use a PS3 controller by USB & Bluetooth as well as a wired Xbox 360 controller without issue.

Mapping the buttons is all about preference. I use the Xbox 360 controller normally for this game. I use the D-Pad and made the buttons the standard A, B, & X.

============================================================================
Strategy
The game includes 14 challenges. Each challenge is a character that is iconic from the series. The finale being against the Eggman himself. The story progresses in the most linear way possible. You beat a baddy you advance a stage. If you fail to defeat a baddy you will have to try again.

The first couple of bosses are pretty simple and don't really require much strategy however as you continue the difficulty gradually increases. Not having a strategy will get you through a few stages but you need to plan out your moves. The goal is to setup for the greatest payoff. The greater number of beans popped in rapid succession the greater the effect will have.

Playing practice mode will give you a chance to practice but what I found has worked best for me was to find a friend and challenge each other. Eggman will be your greatest challenge so once you reach him you had better be ready,
Story
==============================================================================
Story
==============================================================================
The story is short and simple. You are the hero of this adventure but in a strange twist you are not sonic. Sonic is never even mentioned in this game.

None the less you are out to save the tax paying residents of Beanville. Robotnik's plan is to turn everyone evil. To do this he will force everyone into a machine that will make them evil.

Thus the name Dr Robotniks Mean Bean Machine. You are tasked with saving the people. You set forth in this tetris-esque adventure to stop Egg-Man from making everyone evil. But first you must defeat all of Egg-Man's minions first.

Makes sense to me.

Basics
============================================================================
The Basics
============================================================================

As the title suggests I will guide you through the basics of how to play the game. Once you understand the basics you can build on this and destroy Egg-Man.

To begin the first thing that will happen is time will progress. As time flows a new set of beans will fall from the top of the screen. You wil always get a pair of beans like this.

First thing you will notice is that the beans are two different colors. There are a total of 5 different colors in the game.

The next thing to worry about is how to win. You dont necessarily aim to win but you shoot to not lose. The first person to reach the top of the screen with beans loses. Standard formula.

So now you want to know how you remove the beans. Well its a simple as connect four. As a matching color bean touches another they will melt together. Once four melt together they will BURST.
============================================================================
***IMPORTANT NOTE***

As you cause more beans to burst they will send junk to the other player. Junk beans have no color. They will take up space and need a bean to burst while in contact with them to be destroyed. They do not produce more junk.

============================================================================
Combo's

This is a bit advanced but it needs to be noted if you are to ever defeat Egg-Man. A combo happens by chain reaction.

The first thing you need to do is create a setup. The setup relies on one set of beans to be destroyed. When the beans are destroyed they will drop beans above them.

When those beans fall they cause a chain reaction of four other beans to connect and burst.

The longer this combo goes on the crazier the exclamation the beans make and more importantly the more junk you will send your apponent. Its possible to create such large combos that you defeat your enemy without them ever having a chance to recover.
============================================================================
An example of a setup

Now this is a really nice setup. What will hopefully happen is the player will place a green bean next to the L bracket greens. When they burst the Yellow and Blue setup will fall. Once they fall they will react with the other Yellow and Blue setup causeing a chain reaction. Finally the Pink will drop and react with the pink in the bottom right.

Once this is done the enemy will get hit with a MASSIVE amount of junk that may or may not end the enemy.

Cheats, Codes, Easter Eggs and Glitches
==============================================================================
Summary
This section will cover anything related to cheating, Easter eggs, glitches, or codes. I will make a side note if a certain one is only available to a certain version.
==============================================================================
Cheats
As you can see this is pretty much a template setup. As best I can tell this game lacks cheating such as easy wins or extra lives.
==============================================================================
Easter Eggs
So while at the start screen it will ask you to press start. Do not press start instead press either A, B, C (or controller equivalent) on both player 1 and player 2 controllers to watch the various letters dance. It’s not an amazing Easter egg but it’s all we have.
==============================================================================
Glitches
As far as I know and what my research tells me is this game is without glitches, way to go.
==============================================================================
Codes
This game actually has a series of codes but they all pertain to level and difficulty selection. The cheat menu is pretty straight forward and has a code entry section by default.

@SuperCraig64 I made the changes as agreed. Let me know if you have any other ideas.

Ok thank you for the information. I am glad to help out, especially since this is one of those games that don't get noticed, but are hidden gems. Like Gunstar Heroes. :happy_creep:

@SuperCraig64 Seeing as at least one person has viewed this and maybe more I will gladly add in the ideas you have added with proper credit. Ill find more information to include as well. I may include the stuff for the various consoles as a side note but this was really intended for the PC release. I guess it can't hurt really.

Expect this to be updated in the next 24 hours with the suggestions.

I am impressed about this guide so far, and I want to help a bit. On the gamecube, there is a port of this game included in the Sonic Mega Collection or Sonic Mega Collection+ on PS2. Oh yes, I believe there was a password system as well. I don't remember any of the codes, but there is a different one for every level. Including the final stage I believe. Another thing to add is that like most other games, the game gets harder with every level beaten. And every enemy has their own stradigy. One may start around the corners stacking there, or just goes all in and makes random moves, to later turn them into finishing blows. But with all these pros, there are cons to them as well. So its up to you to find what their weakness is and exploit it. Hopefully this is enough information that I can offer. As I haven't played the game in a long time.
