The Last Maharaja - Infinite loading loop

The Last Maharaja is an absolute abomination, filled with bugs, glitches, and errors. This fix focuses on an infinite loading bug.

Before you start the DLC

Should you read this guide before you started the DLC consider yourself lucky.
Because this DLC is filled with Bugs, Glitches, etc.

I recommend either don't play this DLC at all or back up your save files manually before playing.

How to back up your safe files: Go to <Uplay-folder>\savegames\<user-id>\1957\ (or 1875 if you are using the UPlay version) and copy everything to a safe location

The Infinite Loading Bug

For me, this bug happened during the mission "A good Send-Off" where you escort something on a boat.

Technically this isn't an infinite loading bug but rather a very buggy loop that should bever be in the game in the first place. Sadly at the point, this DLC came out nobody cared enough to fix it.

A short explanation of the bug: If you die during the mission you will be put in the Free Run Loading Screen, after that it usually puts you trough a short black Loading Screen with the little icon, for this bug you will be stuck here until you will see your character but will be instantly desynchronized because you failed your mission. Back to the Free-Run Loading Screen and repeat.

Fix: Alt Tab during Black Screen

This method is crude and might not work for you or at least not on the first try.
However after a reading trough a bunch of Forums I can tell you that others have fixed it using this method too. A similar fix did also work on consoles by opening the corresponding dashboard at a certain time.


When the game puts you in the black loading screen, after the Free-Run Loading Screen, Alt-Tab (or use Windows key) in and out of the game until its fixed.


Restarting the game will not work! The game will be saved with this faulty game state and will put you into this loop again after a restart.

This just happened to me, and i found another way to fix it. Exit the game, then in the main menu under display settings, set your refresh rate as low you can and turn on vsync. I set my refresh rate to 50 and with vsync on, i was able to sit through the long load time, start on the boat where i was stuck and finish this mission. Hope this helps someone.

Found another way. You can uninstall this DLC, start the game, do something so it saves, then reinstall the DLC. Once you start the game again you appear on the last checkpoint.

It actually worked! Thank you! Just a note: you should set the screen parameter to fullscreen. I tired it with "no border" window, and it didn't worked.
I have this game in the Ubisoft Launcher, so I can't upvote your post :c

I had a similar death loop with Jedi Fallen Order. In the part where you are running from vader, I fell off the ledge, and it just kept respawning me directly over the place where I died lol So I was falling endlessly.

I had exactly this problem, but shutting down the game (ALT - F4) and restarting actually resolved the issue. It set me back to the latest checkpoint and upon entering the cutscene it would then play.

Happened approx. 3 times during all of the The Last Maharaja missions.
