What is a launch window??
a launch window is the "recommended" time to launch if you are going to a planet, it is far more fuel efficient to launch at these times
Launch windows
  • Moho 109 degrees
  • eve -54 degrees
  • Duna 45 degrees
  • Dres 82 degrees
  • Jool 96 degrees
  • eeloo 101 degrees

these launch windows use the sun as a reference point, for example here is an image to illustrate the launch window between kerbin and Duna

In case someone stumbles on this guide: There are mods that calculate this for you. For example kerbal alarm clock will how long is until a transfer window. MechJeb can do this too. And also set up a transfer manevuer from orbit for you.

martin, that is a really good question. My intuition says yes because it's probably easier to create the persistence file if everything always starts in the same place (you can hardcode the values rather than using a generator which requires error-checking). Planets are always on rails so it makes sense. I could be wrong though, I've probably started 10 career & sandbox games over the last few years and never once thought to check this.

Mr. Walmammal, Not sure you can do that, or do the planets always start at the same position?

you can use MechJeb, just make the planet your target and do a timed launch.

is there a mod anywhere that can do this for me? or am I stuck to estimation?

you have to edit eve's transfer degrees to -54 degrees. Kerbin needs to be in front of eve before the transfer

yea that is some thing that should be done

you also need a launch window for Kerbin if you are flying back from another planet. you should add it
