Essential mods for Gothic 2

The purpose of this guide is to show the best mods for Gothic 2, and ensure you have the best experience playing the game.

Note

This guide is a work in progress, there are many mods that I have to add yet.

Vurt's Gothic II Graphics Overhaul

This is probably the best graphics mod available for Gothic 2, it adds 600+ textures to the game, inlcuding plants, trees, water effects, clothes and armors... a full list of features can be found on the source link provided above.

Installation:

Drop the .vdf file in your G2 installation folder (Steam\Steamapps\common\Gothic II\Data)

You can use the custom INI file that Vurt provides with his own settings. Drop it in Gothic II\System

Velaya - Tale of a Warrior is a modification for Gothic 2 - Night of the Raven. It tells the story of Velaya, a young woman, who is leaving her mark on Khorinis, shortly after the nameless hero leaves the island. A lot has changed in the meantime and the land is still in need of a hero. Or heroine?

But this is not Velaya's problem at the moment. Right now she is busy rejecting Dar, probably the most unpleasant mercenary on Onar's farm. Their dispute ends after a brief fight... on the planks of the tavern. She wants to get back at the weedhead her way. And soon she won't be as helpless as everyone thinks she is...

Beating up Dar will only be the first step. There is a lot more chauvinism to face. For the men of Khorinis it's not always easy to get used to a female adventurer. But they will soon learn to respect the ambitious woman and value her deeds.

The mod offers:

• An entirely new story
  
• An altered island of Khorinis
  
• A lot of well-known people
  
• Some new characters
  
• Complete German voice output (optional)
  
• Numerous quests in four chapters
  
• All in all about 40 hours of gameplay

NOTE: Because the mod's events are set after the Nameless Hero leaves Khorinis, it's recommended to finish the main game first before you start playing Velaya's history.

Installation

1. Download the Report version[www.worldofgothic.com] of Gothic 2 and install the patch. Due to incompatible naming conventions you will probably have no sound and no subtitles in your original Gothic 2 after installing this patch. To fix this problem do the following:

• Go to <Your Gothic 2 directory>/_work/data/scripts/content/cutscene
  
• Rename the file Ou.dat to Ou.bin
  
• Rename the file Ou.lsc to Ou.csl

2. Download the mod from one of these links:

3. Now install Velaya Mod, and additionally the German voice output if you wish.

4. To run the mod, go to Gothic II/System and run GothicStarter.exe, then select Velaya - Tale of a Warrior from the list and play.

@ORthx Install G2 2.6 report version. Gothic 2 playerkit 2.8 and finally Gothic 2 System Pack 1.8. In that order. If you have G2 on Steam, then you already have everything installed. Done.

Artemiano Textures are the best. If you can find the mod. It took A while for me to find it. Just use Google.
@ORthx The Ironkeep patch is not needed if you are using the latest system pack.
@Baked Beans Velaya can be played anytime you want. It does not cause problems. But I would play it after G2, If you have not played G2 first.
Also Gothic 2 Gold Remaster is A fine texture mod. It does not change game play at all.
L`Hiver Edition and Atariar are also good mods that DO change game play. NOTE: L`Hiver Edition is in .vdf format. (goes in Data folder) Remove any .vdf mods from the Data folder before running any mods via GothicStarter.exe. It will cause problems. There is A way to convert .vdf mod to .mod files. (even after changing the file extention) It would take too long to explain here. Google will help. That way you can have all the mods you want installed at the same time. Go to www.worldofgothic.de (Google will translate) for some of the best G2 mods.

Hey man can I choose to start velaya after the main game with it being installed or should I just install it after I finish the main game

I dont recommend playing with any mod on your first playtrough due to them making the game even more problematic to run on modern systems as is. It sucks that you discover playing 20+ hours and then realize your save has been corrupted.

I would but Veleya as essential, since its has an independent story. I would also include Dark Story, The Returning (The hardest gaming expirience I had) and L'Hiver (makes the game look amazing).
