CS:GO Terrorist C4 Plant Guide

It may seem like common sense... but there is a strategy !!!

C4 Plant Guide

Planting the C4 is part of the objective for terrorists on CS:GO 'de_' maps. Not only must the terrorists plant the C4, but they must defend it from being defused, or kill all of the counter-terrorists to win the round.

Many players try to hide while planting.. while this may seem smart so the CT's can not kill you while planting, it does not help in defending it.

When planting the bomb, always 'clear' the site first ( check all hiding spots, doorways etc ) this will let you chose an optimal spot for planting.

The Basics of Planting are:

• chose a site and drop the bomb out of CTs view
  
• clear the site of enemy CTs
  
• pick up the bomb and plant in an optimal location
  
• defend the planted bomb for 45 seconds or until all CTs are dead

Clearing & Planting

When planting the bomb, always 'clear' the site first ( check all hiding spots, doorways etc ) this will let you chose an optimal spot for planting.

Before entering a site, it is smart to drop the C4 onto the ground outside the bombsite before 'clearing the site'. This way the CT's will not see where the bomb carrier is located, also.. if you end up dying, the C4 is back where your team mates can pick it up easier and either proceed into the cleared site, or rotate to a different bomb site.

Flash Grenades can greatly aid in clearing a bombsite, but only if used properly.. the days are gone where flashing at rush points catches your enemies off guard, and usually ends up with you or your team mates being flashed instead. Most CTs will have some sort of cover in the bomb site to protect them from flashes and bullets.
Flashes are best used with smoke grenades in this situation. Smoke grenades should be thrown into the site, but just beyond your point of entry. This way you and your team can enter the site and disperse giving the CT's a wider area to try to cover.
Geometry is your friend here! Don't stand in the open doorway with smoke grenade in hand.. you will die... instead, look at the area, find things to bounce your smoke grenade off of to try and get it into the spot you want. ( finding and practicing offline with no bots helps a lot )

Once the smoke is in position, throwing flashes into your smoke seems to work well. The CTs tend to to try and prefire smoke or change their position to try and cover better. This leaves them in the open where flashes will blind them. After 1 to 2 flashes have been thrown, the team, as a group needs to enter the site at the same time. ( multiple entry points if possible )

The terrorists should have an advantage here because the CTs most likely split up to cover the other bomb site. This leaves your team of 4 to 5 terrorists better chance to kill the 2 to 3 flashed CTs that are in the site. Once the site is cleared, activate the bomb.

To plant the bomb, you must be in a designated bomb planting area. Once inside this area, pressing and holding the 'Use' key automatically selects the bomb and starts the plant. ( no need to scroll through your items or press the appropriate # key ) Planting takes approximately 4 to 5 seconds so be sure to hold your 'Use' key down until the bomb is planted, otherwise you will have to start over.

Placing the bomb in an optimal location will make it easier for your team to defend it from many different angles. If the C4 is behind a box in the corner, it is a lot harder for your team to see the defuser, thus making it easier for the CT's to defend him!

I have seen ( and been a part of ) many many rounds where the T's would have won if the bomb was planted in an optimal location. This will also help lessen the amount of 'ninja' defuses ! :)

If you end up in a 1v4 or 1v5 situation and know you will most likely lose.... getting the bomb planted, even if you die and it gets defused, is a great idea.. it will give your team more money to buy and possibly stop you from having an eco round.

Planting Maps

Here are some pictures of optimal places to plant the C4 on some popular de maps. The red dot(s) is the planted C4, the yellow lines are 'lines of site' to defend it from defusers, the green dots are possible bomb drop spots.

You can use the following maps as a guideline on where to plant the bomb. Remember each situation may be a little different and may not work every time !

After the bomb is planted... CAMP !!!

Congratulations !! you successfully planted the bomb !! now... you must defend it for 45 seconds or kill all of the counter-terrorists!! Once the terrorists have taken over a bombsite and planted the bomb, it is a good idea to stay in the area and protect it from any counter-terrorists coming to defuse it...

When I say camp.. I don't mean just sit and hide while your team mates are getting slaughtered !! I mean stay in your area and help defend the site!!!

Using the maps in the 1st section on where to plant the bomb, you can now refer to these 2nd set of maps on the best positions to take for defense..
Each terrorist location can see multiple bombsite access points and most can see the bomb as well. These locations also provide decent cover and minimize the risk of friendly fire.

If there are only 1, 2 or 3 terrorists left, try to chose the positions that supply the best entry coverage. It may be hard, but even I have been able to defend a planted bomb against 5 incoming counter-terrorists !! ( granted I had smoke and a p90.. and they all only had 1 hit left ! )

The use of smoke to cover doorways, hallways etc is a good idea as to not allow the counter-terrorists to see your locations until they are in the site and caught in the cross fire !! Do NOT smoke within the site and make it easier for the CTs to enter. Instead, smoke on the outside of their entry point.

Remember... dying in the C4 explosion as a Terrorist is not a bad thing!

• First off, you've won the round!
  
• Secondly, you did not run backwards with your knife out in an attempt to live through the explosion only to run straight into the CT who was there waiting for you, thus giving him a kill and possibly your weapon....

Camping Maps

Here are some pictures of optimal places to Camp the bombsite on some popular de maps. The red dot(s) is the planted C4, the yellow lines are 'lines of site', the orange dots are possible camping spots.

You can use the following maps as a guideline on where to camp on bomb sites. Remember each situation may be a little different and may not work every time ! Try to create 'killzones' at the point of entry. ( killzones are lines of crossfire, the more lines, the better.. but try to keep decent cover and the abiltiy to cover more than 1 entry)

and I want to say once more...
When I say camp.. I don't mean just sit and hide while your team mates are getting slaughtered !! I mean stay in your area and help defend the site!!!


NOTE: de_inferno Terrorist Camp Map was shown here with a test defensive formation. Results woked out well with about a 90% win ratio when the bomb was planted.

'Ninja' Planting Strategies

'Ninja Planting' is not done very often and is not an easy task to accomplish... unlike Ninja Defusing, Ninja Planting generally takes the cooperation of your teammates, and is a very risky maneuver..

Basically, Ninja Planting is planting the bomb and having the CTs believe it is at the other site, or having the CTs rotate to the other site believing an attempt to plant will be there when all the while you were just waiting for them to rotate so you could plant.

Diversions is a must, and your teammates must make noise and push the opposite site you wish to Ninja Plant. In this situation, the use of at least 1 decoy is a must..

When Ninja Planting, patience is a must !! Attempting to do it to soon can give away your position and you are most likely to lose the round, once the CTs kill you and guard the bomb... even if you successfully kill the 2 CTs, you position is compromised and it will not be long before the remaining CTs rotate to the other bombsite.. You have 2 minutes to plant, this may not seem like a lot of time, but in essence, it does not matter if the bomb is planted in the first 15 seconds of the round, or the last 15 seconds of the round.. once planted, the round timer stops.

There are some advanced tactics that can be used, such as a Fake Ninja Plant. A fake ninja plant is having your team push hard to one bombsite, while you temporarily hide outside the other. When your teammates have almost secured their bombsite, you quickly show yourself, while carrying the bomb, to the CTs guarding your site.. throw smoke to slow their attack. Once they see you, a bomb icon will show up on the CTs radar.. the CTs getting plastered with bullets at the other site will rotate, thinking you are attempting to plant there instead. Timing is critical in the Fake Ninja Plant.. once you have let the CTs in the site your at see you, make sure not to get killed and hurry to the other site where your teammates have most likely secured. Now you can easily plant, having most if not all of your team to defend the planted bomb.

I will add more info & pictures on the Fake Ninja Plant later, the following is an example of a regular Ninja Plant.

Example of Ninja Planting

( Using Dust2 as an example, images are for reference only. Radar and time stamps are not correct )

• Step 1 - Have your teammates buy 2 to 3 Decoy Grenades. They are rushing Long A, while you are headed towards Bombsite B. Making sure to hide on the terrorist's side outside of tunnels. ( preferably behind cover, such as the boxes, making sure not to make ANY noise )
  
  
  
• Step 2 - Hopefully your team can get to the sniper pit where they will throw 1 or 2 decoys... either near them or in the pit itself. This way, the CTs guarding Long A from the bombsite will see several terrorists in that area and on their map, they should see 5 red terrorists dots. This will make them believe that ALL of the terrorists are around there. Make sure to watch the flank.
  
  
  
• Step 3 - While your team is making noise and getting as many picks as they can, the 2 to 3 CTs from Bombsite B and mid should be rotating to site A. Either through the tunnels to cat walk, or mid through CT spawn. You should be able to hear them leaving Bombsite B as one generally runs through tunnels to make sure it is clear. Even if they run out of tunnels towards T spawn, they should not see you behind the boxes... most CTs are less careful once they see 5 red dots on the radar, and don't check hiding spots as thoroughly as they should. Do not attack the CT if you see him running up to T spawn.. remember.. this is a NINJA PLANT !!! :)
  
  
  
• Step 4 - Once the area is clear, proceed into the Bombsite B quietly, making sure to check the usual hiding spots. Once you are in there, wait for the rotating CTs to reach their destination before planting. Plant the bomb in an area where your team can easily defend it once they rotate to you..
  
  
  
• Step 5 - Guard the site and the bomb ( 45 seconds is an eternity.. i know ) but hopefully a couple of CTs have been picked off by now and the remaining CTs will have to get to you all the while your teammates will be advancing and shooting them in the back.. This puts the CTs in a bad situation where they will have to try and cover 180 degrees.
  

Ninja Planting will not work against professional teams or teams who have played together for a long time. They know to hold their site until they hear "the bomb has been planted".

Successfully executing a Ninja Plant is fun !! I admit I have only been successful at performing this maneuver a couple dozen times or so in my 10+ years of CS .. it takes team work and timing.. a hard thing to find in competitive matchmaking.... unless you cue with a team ! :)

of course... each situation has a lot of variables and will be different, like is it 1v4? 1v1? What weapon do you have vs what they have? Do you have any grenades left? How much HP do you have vs them? etc etc .. but this should be a good start and a guidline to go off of and learn from ! :)

@sledge yeah my line fell short of pit, but i assumed people knew you could sit in pit with an awp or even a rifle and pick em off pretty easily.... I shouldnt 'assume' :) I will correct it when I have some time !thanks !

I saw how in your "Planting Maps" section you planted the bomb long on Dust ll, but you didn't recommend having any terrorists in Pit to cover it. Having one T cover Double-Door and the other T with an AWP in Pit watching the bomb is probably one of the best strategies. You have a clear line-of-sight to defend yourself as the AWPer, and your teammate is covering your flank. They are forced to go into your sight to defuse, where you can easily pick them off.

Did it on de_nuke. Rushed A after 2 CT's (Holding a) dead. Went to Bombsite B from the broken T Vent And planted it on Bombsite B. My team tried to guard bombsite A and then they died but the bomb exploded when CT's realized it was on B.

The guide is excellent. I have done the Ninja Plant a bit accidentaly (LooooL) in random matchmaking when a misunderstanding made the rest of the team go A attracking all CTs notice while I planted in B unnoticed. It was certainly fun and gave us the round. However it was pure luck and not planed to be executed that way. It really needs a well coordinated team to execute it onpurpose. Still, it is a good trick.
