Installing the PESEdit patch <outdated>
By luckz
WARNING: as of a few months, the PES Edit team has stopped updating their patch for the current PES version, which Steam force-patches for you. thus out of the box you can only play patches that are compatible with DLC 7.0 and the current game patch. PES Edit 4.4 is only compatible with DLC 6.0; running it with Steam PES requires either downgrading the game to DLC 6.0 or fiddling with the mod a lot to make it work reasonably with DLC 7.0. Researching the matter on the obvious forums, PESEdit.com and Evo-Web.co.uk, is your best bet to accomplish this. Other patches like Fire Patch and PESGalaxy appear to be updated for DLC 7.0.
Feel invited to share what works for you in the comments.

Many people wonder how to install the PESEdit patch, some claim it isn't even possible or requires replacing your game files with parts of illegal copies. Nonsense!

Downloading the mod
http://pesedit.com/forums/showthread.php?19485-PESEdit-com-2014-Patch-2-2 or whatever the current version is
(or Google some torrent link for a way faster download, assuming you're not a paying customer of their chosen file hoster...)

You don't need to grab the "data packs" / "DLC" for the Steam version, Steam already downloaded that for you.
Installing
- Run the PESEdit installer and let it install to the default folder

Open these three folders in Explorer or whichever wacky file manager you use:
- the Steam game folder,
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Pro Evolution Soccer 2014
- the default game folder, where you now installed the mod,
C:\Program Files (x86)\KONAMI\Pro Evolution Soccer 2014
- the data folder, where PESEdit put some files it needs,
C:\ProgramData\KONAMI\Pro Evolution Soccer 2014\

Then:
  • move everything from the default game folder besides the PES2014.exe and Settings.exe into the Steam game folder (ctrl-x, ctrl-v)
  • cut and paste the 'download' folder from the data folder to the Steam game folder

Now everything is in one nice place! Sadly, the silly PESEdit people hard-coded their selector program to require some files to be in the data folder for switching between online/ML mode and second divisions.
You have two options. Either, you can copy the entire \download\ folder back from the Steam folder to the data folder (2.5gb), or you make a directory junction that points from one to the other.
To do this, open the Start menu, type 'cmd', right-click cmd.exe, click 'Run as administrator', and then execute the following command:
mklink /J "C:\ProgramData\KONAMI\Pro Evolution Soccer 2014\download" "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Pro Evolution Soccer 2014\download"

If you don't do the latter, you likely need to copy some files back from the data folder to the Steam game folder every time you want to change something with the PESEdit selector.

Congrats, you're done with the basic install!
Registry mangling
Now, all you need to achieve true tranqulity is some registry editing, again because the PESEdit people really like to snoop around in your system registry.

You need to tell them the location of the game folder.

Either run and execute http://luckz.de/upload/pes/pes2014.reg

Or make a new .txt file, paste
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432NODE\KONAMI\PES 2014] "code"="serial" "installdir"="C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Steam\\SteamApps\\common\\Pro Evolution Soccer 2014\\" "version"="1.06.0000"
into it, and rename it to .reg & execute it.
Non-default paths
If your Steam game folder is not C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Pro Evolution Soccer 2014\, you need to adjust the 'mklink' command and the .reg file contents accordingly. Everything else is the same.
Q&A
Why not outright install PESEdit into the Steam game folder?
It replaces your PES exe and Settings exe with different versions. This breaks everything.

Does online mode work fine this way?
Sure, works fine.
Remember to first set the PESEdit patch to online mode properly.

The game exe doesn't seem to exit, Steam shows me as playing long after I quit!
That's a bug / feature. Make sure to check task manager after you quit. Does this only happen for me?

Can I use gameplay mods with this?
Yes of course. In offline mode, anyway. Jenkey1002's PES File Loader[jenkey1002.blogspot.com]. At the time of writing, http://www.sendspace.com/file/379ocr was the newest version. Comment out the KitLoader, Faceloader, Videoloader plugins at least, and remove the GDB, pes14_snd, pes14_win_dat folders from it while at it.

I want to play online but lost my serial number, halp!
For some reason Steam doesn't feel like telling you the game cd key via the usual means. Point Regedit at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\TestApp250870\; the game wants the key without dashes.

I played 15 today, I guess it's better than 14. But not by very much.

You should probably add somewhere that the pesedit guys aren't going to bother with 2014 since they've just been dealing with 2015. They most likely won't be updating it to be compatable with DP7.

Getting dummy players in some teams, ran as adminstrator, still the same issue.

I rarely find people for mp on fifa 14. Mostly only friends.

"Multiplayer is kinda hard to get"? What?
Foxjade14 Jul 9, 2014 @ 6:59pm
Ahh, I gotcha, I read on a post here on steam, that version 4.3 kinda works so I'm trying that out. If it doesn't I might just download a version of pes and play it that way. already bought it so I ain't hurtin anyone. I've got fifa 14, but that's getting kinda old just singleplayer since multiplayer is kinda hard to get.

You (should) get that from the PESEdit installer.
To actually play PESEdit on the current unsupported version though, you may have to employ things like downgrading from DLC7 to DLC6 or using third party exe files or hex-editing your exe or...

There's some more or less informative threads about that on the community forums (the PES Edit one and Evo Web).

At the moment I get my football fix from http://store.steampowered.com/app/212780/ , don't know if there will be a "good" (low-effort) way to play PES 2014 + PES Edit + ideally some gameplay patches + maybe that World Cup DLC in the future.

Just reinstalled the game and I don't have the C:\ProgramData\KONAMI\Pro Evolution Soccer 2014\ any idea why?
