PSO2 Tweaker for NA

Many players who played JP version of game known about it.
But do they know about NA version of it? :)

For new ppl you should know that it's can be used for updating the game and fixing problem in it

Enabling Developer Mode

Steam version work without this

You will need to enable Developer mode in Windows 10 - This is required to link the game to the Windows store in later steps. There's a guide on how to do it here[www.howtogeek.com]. The NA version of the game will not work without this!
Only villains use light mode!

Setting up the PSO2 Tweaker

If you haven't done so already, grab the Tweaker installer from this page located here[na.arks-layer.com] and install using the setup file.
Download the Tweaker using this button!

Remember where you install the Tweaker, you will need to know this for a later step!

Once installed, we will need to also set exceptions in our antivirus software. The reason for this is that most antivirus software use heuristics to identify possible unknown viruses, using certain patterns in behavior or how the program works. This means that the entire basis of how the Tweaker works can get it mistaken for a virus. It's unlikely, but better safe than sorry!

The Tweaker also allows you to download fan translation patches (for the JP version), which the Tweaker adds into the game itself. It's these things that virus heuristics wrongfully assume that the Tweaker is a virus (every once in a blue moon).

Launching the Tweaker & Installing the game

Here installing instruction for tweaker and game, so after downloading game throught steam go install pso2 tweaker.

Now, after setting exceptions in our antivirus software, open the Tweaker as administrator. You'll be greeted with a pop-up message similar to below, asking if you would like to open a guide on how to use the tweaker.
Clicking on "Yes" will open net (this) guide.

Then you would be asked have you installed pso2, so choose yes and pick NA then steam. Then do what it ask and wait while it fix files.

I hide what need to be skipped
Click on "No" and you'll see another message asking if you have installed PSO2 already. Click on the button labeled "No", then select the "North American" version. This will start the install process.

A warning dialog pop-up will open, informing you where to install the game. Click on "Ok" to continue.

Now select where to install the game. In this example, I chose a folder on my E:\ drive, but you can pick where you wish to have the game installed. If you would want to install to your C:\ drive, you can select the C:\ drive itself and the Tweaker will create a folder named PHANTASYSTARONLINE2_NA, with the full folder path being C:\PHANTASYSTARONLINE2_NA\.

Don't install on your desktop please!

You will then be asked to confirm your installation location. Click on "Cancel" to go back and reselect your desired install location. Click on "Ok" to confirm this location.

 Note: Please ensure that you have 70 GB free of storage space on the disk PSO2 is installing into.

DO NOT INSTALL PSO2 IN YOUR DOCUMENTS FOLDER, THE DOWNLOADS FOLDER, PROGRAM FILES\PROGRAM FILES (X86), OR ON THE DESKTOP. WINDOWS RESTRICTS PROGRAM PERMISSIONS IN THOSE LOCATIONS AND CAN CAUSE ISSUES WHEN ATTEMPTING TO START THE GAME.

THE DRIVE SELECTED MUST BE FORMATTED TO NTFS. YOU CANNOT INSTALL THIS ON TO A DRIVE THAT IS FORMATTED TO FAT32 OR EXFAT.

Another pop-up will appear, telling you that the Tweaker will now begin downloading and creating the necessary files and folders it needs to install the game. Click on the "Ok" button to begin the download.

Now the main Tweaker window will appear. If the upgrading process does not automatically begin, click the "Check for updates" button.. During this time, the Tweaker may appear to be unresponsive for several minutes - this is normal, it's building a huge hashlist of 93,000 files. Give it a few minutes.

A pop-up may appear, informing you that it will restart the Tweaker and begin installing the game. If you get this message, click on "OK" on this pop-up.

Another pop-up may ask you if you would like to close another instance of the Tweaker. Do so to continue the installation process.

Now the VEDA Operating Terminal will launch and start the download process. Please sit back and do something else as your PC will divert its resources to the Tweaker's download process. Do not try to interrupt this process. The speed of this installer/updater depends on your CPU speed, download speed, and how much SEGA's download server allows you to download.

By now, the Tweaker should be done downloading (or close to it, in that case, should be a few GB left).
Hold on a second!

We're not done yet - If you leave here, your install WILL NOT WORK.
You must do the next part of this guide, or you game will not work.

Finalizing The Setup

If you're using an antivirus/firewall, you will need to set exceptions for the game itself. PSO2 utilizes an anti-cheat software known as GameGuard, which utilizes rootkit behavior to scan your running processes and files. You cannot disable or limit GameGuard's access in any way or form, as PSO2 will close if it detects this. 

Skip this - Registering the game with the Windows Store

Once it finishes patching, download these two files: File #1 and File #2 Put them in the same folder where you installed the PSO2 Tweaker. Double click the CMD file to start the script. Wait until it says "Fixes complete!", then press any key.

It may prompt you about changing a policy - Just hit Y to continue.

If you receive a "permission denied" error in the red text, make sure you're logged in as an administrator.

All done!

What does this powershell script do?
This powershell script will check to make sure you have everything you need to run PSO2 (Required libraries, DirectX9, VCLibs, the correct files, etc), delete any leftover Windows Store files (Get that space back!), make sure everything is ready, then link the game to the Windows Store so that it knows that you have it installed.
This means that the Windows Store can see your game, but not modify it (No more file nuking!).

Launching the Tweaker

You may now play the game as is by clicking on "Start PSO2". \o/ However, there are more features that the PSO2 Tweaker that you can enable and install. If you wish to configure your graphics settings, keep reading!

Graphics Configuration

To configure the graphic settings for PSO2, click on the button labeled "PSO2 Settings".

Unlike other games, PSO2 has different preset graphics options that enable and disable certain settings. These settings do not allow you to customize them completely, except for the post-processing settings that you can enable from within the game itself.

Once you have configured your desired settings, click on "Save Changes" to exit this menu.

Wrapping Up

Troubles with instaling throught steam

One extra thing for people to note, is that never update the game through steam after installing pso2 tweaker, if you can help it. Always update through tweaker, otherwise if you do it on steam, then try to update on tweaker, it'll fail and completely corrupt the game, making you reinstall it. :/ happened to me before

I used the tweaker to launch my steam version as epic games version successfully without needing to download on the other platform. But when I try the same for Windows 10 version it says that "You’ll need a new app to open this ms-xbl-78a72674 link". Any workaround to claim the Windows 10 version login rewards without needing to download it again on there?

ANYONE who plays the JP version will recommend the tweaker myself included, their patcher is 10x faster than segas crappy patcher, they also have extra settings options, and although not available in the NA version yet, they also have plugins for extra ingame addons(non rule breaking stuff).

If you do end up liking the tweaker, and feel like it helped you enough, consider sending them a patreon donation, these guys really go out of their way to give us neat stuff for free and better service than sega, in fact i wouldnt be surprised if sega stole all the translations from the tweaker staff themselves, before coming to NA they(the tweaker group) had like 95% of the game translated.

Load in Steam already Can I play JP server?

Wow, your the only one who is offended as you can't read can you.
All the post on hare list one or more things that serve a purpose, its just you.

1. Don't have to use MS/Steam to play the game
2. Run both JP & NA var. of the game from one launcher
3. Easily update/fix game files
4. Use JP game file to easily move over to NA game. (Or NA to JP) (Download less files)
5. Use Plugin, font mods etc.
6. Easily set to 4K or higher & other settings
7. Troubleshooting errors etc.

The list goes on & will always have a purpose as long as the developer updates and keeps supporting it. Yes it runs the Steam version as well, you just can't see that over being so mad.

It was a little more then just a copy & pasting, its mostly the same yes however, its not like he/she is trying to hide that and links it from the start. Farming steam karma, lol sure whatever helps you sleep.

Mozgus, get over yourself. PSO2 Tweaker has helped people play PSO2 in English for years and now has been updated to work for both MS Store & Steam var. of the game. The MS Store var. has been having errors in the past of deleting itself, so yes it may to it hare as well. It some or most data is on the PC, Tweaker can update and add the missing files back easily.

Its been helping player for years, be thankful you got a NA var. of the game as most of us started playing the JP copy back in 2012 or so. (Thanks to PSO2 Tweaker doing most of the hard work)
