Guide to Zombie Escape (Unfinished)

This guide is about a popular mod, called Zombie Escape. This mod is different to the zombie survival which you probably know, which is medic (The zombies) verses engineers (The Humans). In this Zombie Escape your main goal when playing as humans (Blu team) is to escape the zombies (Red team) and you win. The main goal of the zombies (Red) is to infect all the humans (Blu) and if no humans remain, zombies win. In this guide I will explain the various mechanics and rules of this game.

What is the Zombie Escape?
Zombie Escape is a mod where two competing teams, humans and zombies attempt to stop each other from reaching their goals. At the start of each round you chose between the 9 classes and spawn in a map with a countdown timer, when the timer hits 0 the game would chose a few alpha zombies randomly and spawn them back at the spawn point giving the humans a head-start. Most maps cut the map into sections where the humans would have to defend a point after point before being allowed to move on towards the end. Humans left behind still surviving in the map that didn't escape the zombies by reaching the end would be killed off along with all the zombies.

Humans (BLU Team)
As stated before the main goal of the Humans is to win by reaching the end of the map or kill all the zombies.
The Classes (Human)
Scout:

The Scout is the best class for players who value the survival of themselves more than the survival of the group. Don't get me wrong, Scout is great at Zombie escape because of his speed, and being the fastest class in the game he can out run most zombies and he can be beneficial to the team by activating buttons and switches, but many scouts i've seen just troll their teammates, and always end up as last man standing as the scout can access high places not accessible by other classes. My recommended loadout for Scout is Force a Nature, Bonk, Winger, or the Mad Milk, and the Atomizer.

Soldier:

The Soldier is a great addition to the Humans because of his rockets that could cause knockback to delay Zombies or cause them to fall if they are close to a drop. His rocket launchers also allow the Soldier to be highly mobile when rocket jumping and his banners can provide his team with added benefits. Please aim before you shoot because you can end up blasting zombies towards yourself and your teammates. My recommended loadout for Soldier is Liberty Launcher, Conchorer, and the Escape Plan or the Disciplinary action.

Pyro:

Pyro in Zombie Escape is a pretty useful class, as all of his flamethrowers are useful in a way. His flames deal massive damage and sets zombies on fire causing tremendous knockback and his airblast is also very useful in pushing back the zombies. Pyro can also airblast infinitely as Humans get unlimited ammo. The pyro also has useful secondaries like The Scorch Shot That can be used to knock back zombies from a distance. My recommended loadout for Pyro is any flamethrower, Scorch Shot or the Detonator, and the Powerjack.

Demoman:

The Demoman is a okay addition to the Humans as he can use himself as a human shield against the Zombies and charge with his shields to get away or knock zombies back. Demos also can take multiple hits from zombies before turning. My recommended loadout for the Demoman is the Loose Cannon, any shield, and the Persian Persuader or maybe the Claidheamh Mòr.

Heavy:

Heavy is a staple for the Humans if they want to win. Heavies can sacrifice themselves to hold the zombies back in specific places because that's how overpowered the heavy is in Zombie Escape. A warning to everyone, if you want to make it to the end and play heavy you have to use the Gloves of Running Urgently as some maps require parkour that makes it impossible for you to make it to the end without the G.R.U. My recommended loadout for Heavy is the Huo-Long Heater, Buffalo Steak Sandvich or the regular Sandvich, and you have to use the GRU.

Engineer:

Engineers are just as useful as Heavies as their buildings give the Humans a huge advantage. His sentry gun can hold off an entire horde of zombies at specific choke points. His dispensers can heal hurt teammates and block zombies from entering rooms, and he can use his teleporter to escape zombies but some maps have precautions to stop people from teleporting back to an inaccessible part of the map. My recommended loadout for the Engineer is any primary, the Short Circut, and the Gunslinger.

Medic:

Medic is a great class to have your team as they can heal on the go unlike Dispensers. Medic also has a passive health regeneration and a moderate base speed giving you more reasons to play him. The Quick Fix can also allow you to blast jump while healing a blast jumping players and his Uber can allow him and a chosen teammate to have immunity to zombies for a short time. My recommend loadout for medic is the Overdose, stock Medi-gun or the Quick-fix, and the Amputator.

Sniper:

Sniper is normally useless as headshots are fun to get but not important but his bows act as rocket launchers, as his arrows will cause an explosion on impact letting the sniper be a discount soldier with faster speed and faster, more powerful rockets. Like the soldier you should aim before shooting as you can also end up blasting zombies towards yourself. (Using any of the bows allow the sniper to arrow jump, like the soldier's rocket jump.) My recommended loadout for Sniper is a bow, Cozy Camper or the Jarate, and any melee.

Spy:

The Spy is also normally useless as backstabs won't kill zombies in one shot but the Spy can disguise and cloak giving him more options for escaping zombies, and take multiple hits like the the Demoman. I don't really have a recommended loadout for Spy.
Strategy (Humans)
A good way to support your team is to strategize, like using your dispenser as engineer to block the zombies from entering an area. Here are a few strategies you should try when playing Zombie Escape.

Engineer: Engies should use their building strategically, like dispenser blocking and placing sentries in areas where zombies are forced to jump to knock then down, etc.

Heavy: If you're feeling generous you can set yourself up at a choke point and just hold the zombies back while your team escapes. When doing this usually the Humans would win and you'll die at the end. It will be pretty boring if someone does this while you're playing as the Humans and frustrating when you're playing as a Zombie and then someone does this.
The Zombies (RED Team)
Playing as the Zombies is pretty straight forward, as a zombie you can only use your melee weapon to infect the humans and one hit usually does the trick, with a couple exceptions including the Demoman and the Spy which can both take multiple hits before dying which respawns them as a zombie. If you manage to infect all the humans you win but if the humans complete the map with at least one survivor, you lose. If both alpha zombies were killed, the humans automatically win and you automatically lose. At the start of each round the game will chose a few alpha zombies depending on the amount of players on the server which have massive health pools. The non-alpha zombies have less health but normals still have a massive amount of health compared to humans.
The Classes (Zombies)
Scout:

Zombie Scouts are pretty great because of their speed but to balance this they receive more knockback from weapons.

Soldier:



Pyro:



Demoman: Zombie Demomen are pretty OP as they can equip sheilds to charge and Demos can use the Ullapool Caber. The Caber's splash damage will infect everyone within its damage radius allowing Zombie Demos to take out huge amounts of Humans in just one hit.



Heavy: Heavies are viable for zombies, because he takes less knockback than the other zombies.



Engineer: Zombie Engies can be useful in Advanced mode as they can build sentries in advanced mode. Engies can use these sentries to kill Humans hiding in high places.



Medic:

Medics are great to have because they're pretty fast and can heal zombies by taunting while holding the Amputator.

Sniper:



Spy: Zombie Spies are the scariest as they can cloak to get behind the Humans. To balance this zombie spies have to kill Humans to infect them but a backstab will infect Humans in just one hit. Each swing with his knife the Zombie spy does 100 damage if you can't backstab.
Strategy (Zombies)
There isn't much strategy zombies can use but here's a few tips you can use.
General gameplay affecting changes
Due to balancing reasons there are some gameplay affecting changes that you must know when playing Zombie escape. Humans have infinite ammo, so you shouldn't worry about wasting ammo at all, but you still need to reload, all humans have crosses on their heads which are visible by the zombies anywhere even through walls, all zombies will have the Voodoo Cursed Soul equipped regardless if you already filled all your cosmetic slots, all zombies will have a ton of hit points so don't expect zombies to die in just a few shots, and all zombies will take increased knockback.
Class specific gameplay changes
There are also some changes made to specific classes to make them more balanced. These changes include Scouts not being able to double jump without the help of an Atomizer or a Force-a-Nature, building buildings as an Engineer will not drain your metal supply except when shooting the Widowmaker or the Short Circuit, as Engineer you will regenerate metal constantly, you can only build Mini Sentries as an Engineer regardless of the wrench you are using, there is a limit of the amount of Mini Sentries Humans can have at a time which is usually a four or five Mini Sentry limit, and lastly there is a limit to the amount of Scouts and Demomen Humans can which is usually six for both classes.
ZE maps
Most of these maps are imported straight from Zombie Escape Counter Strike.

(Please be aware that there are more maps than the ones listed below and some maps may be retired)

Single Stage maps:
These maps contain only one stage; regardless of which team wins, the map will be repeated upon round end.

ze_potc_v3_4_s4_tf2: A map based on the Pirates of the Caribbean where the humans have to get on the ships and defend it against zombie attacks.

ze_lotr_mount_doom_s2_tf2: A map based on the Lord of the Rings, where one survivor has to find the "Titular" ring and at the end of the map the survivor has to jump into the volcano like in the movie.

ze_space_stationzz_tf2: A map taking place inside of a space station where survivors have to make their way to one of the three escape ships, 2 identical ones and a smaller escape ship to escape the nuclear explosion. If zombies manage to make their way into one of the space ships the round doesn't end after the nuclear explosion and the survivors have to kill the zombies in order to win.

zm_atix_helicopter_tf2: A map taking place inside a city, where survivors can chose multiple different points to defend in the city. After three minutes a helicopter circles the city allowing people to jump into the helicopter taking them to a nuclear bunker on a nearby building and the round ends when a nuclear explosion occurs killing everyone not inside the bunker.

ze_atix_panic: This map takes place in a city, with survivors having the option to chose rooms they want to defend. Survivors should use props in a room to barricade themselves. Afterwards the doors in the rooms open allowing the survivors to move to the roof and defend before a helicopter arrives taking them to a nearby building before a nuclear explosion occurs killing everyone that wasn't on the helicopter.

ze_portal_story_v3_2: A map based on Portal, survivors will have to defend multiple points before traveling inside of a tube taking them to one last point before facing the boss of the map GLaDOS. If you defeat GLaDOS you win but if the survivors fail to kill GLaDOS, she releases neurotoxin killing all the survivors. (Note: Do not shoot GLaDOS's head as it will deal no damage to her instead you should shoot her body.)

ze_voodoo_islands_v8_2_tf2: A map with four islands which the humans have to chose a place to defend and survive long enough to get to the next few islands and the final island.

ze_icecap_escape_v6_tf2: A glacier themed map which the Humans have to get on the two boats at spawn or the lift behind the spawn, then make their way to two boats or the helicopter to the final island.

ze_get_to_the_chopper_fix17_tf2: A map where the Humans have to get on the Helicopter and press multiple buttons around the map to make their way to the final point where they can press another button that kills all the zombies.

ze_blackmesa_escape_tf2_2: A map based on Blackmesa, Humans have to make their way out of the facility and get to a helicopter and fly to safety as the facility explodes.

ze_Death_Star_Escape: A map based on Star wars where Humans have to escape the Death Star on a shuttle. (Note: Gravity with be low on areas that open out to space.)

Multi-Stage Maps:
These maps contain multiple stages. To continue to the next stage, humans must survive to the end and complete their goal; if zombies win, the stage must be repeated. These maps usually have bosses at the end of certain stages. Some multi-stage maps have the same stage be repeated on gradually harder difficulties each time the survivors win, with minor differences; others have the survivors advance to a brand new area of the map upon completing the previous area.

ze_minecraft_adventure_s0_tf2: A Minecraft themed map with four stages, survivors have to escape the overworld, the nether, an abandoned castle, and a cave leading to the End Portal taking the survivors to the End. Some of these maps contain bosses at each of their ends, with a Ghast being the nether boss, the Ender Dragon being the End boss, and Herobrine being the final boss.

ze_bowser_in_the_fire_sea_v1b_tf2: A map made to look like Bowser in the Fire Sea, the survivors have to fight their way to a portal leading to Bowser, and fighting Bowser at the end of each stage. At the final stage, Bowser is more powerful with the map crumbling around him.

ze_shroomforest_v5_9_tf2: A cartoonish map taking place in a mushroom forest, the survivors are shrunk to ant size and forced to complete its 6 stages. The first stage requires survivors to traverse a dense forest and fight a giant butterfly at the end, at the second stage survivors explore a giant house fighting a giant Pikachu at the end, and at the third stage survivors have to fight their way through Hell with Satan being the final boss. The other three stages are harder copies of the original three stages.

ze_bathroom_v4_2s_tf2: A map taking place in a giant bathroom, survivors have to make their way into the bathroom through the sewers and exit through the toilet, making their way through the bathroom before eventually jumping into the bathtub and being forced to fight a giant rubber duck. In the second stage the survivors make their way further into the bathroom and eventually reaching the showers where they must fight a giant cubed sponge.
