Unlock FPS in Dark Souls III
By Gartz
Dark Souls 3 has been finally unlocked!

Nexusmods link[www.nexusmods.com]

Through those links you can download the patch, you will need to extract D3DCompiler_43.dll AND FPSconfig.ini into "Steam\steamapps\common\DARK SOULS III\Game" directory.

Once you have done that open up FPSconfig.ini file and modify the values to your liking. You are most likely to have a good experience by staying around 100 to 140fps. The lower the less bugs.

Launch the game and set it to windowed mode, the patch will make the game borderless.

If there are issues set V-Sync off from NVIDIA or AMD control panel and disable fullscreen optimizations from DarkSoulsIII.exe (the file is located in "Steam\steamapps\common\DARK SOULS III\Game" directory.)

Sidenotes:
-Going above 144fps will break movement speed and rolls, but you can still walk normally and observe the game at even 200+fps if you like.

Occasional bug when you start running, it makes your character run slow, it seems that this can also happen while rolling.
This bug seems to happen if your fps isn't stable enough, so you need to try and find a sweet spot that works with your PC and make sure that you can achieve a stable fps, otherwise you'll encounter more slow roll and slow run bugs. This might be due to the patch trying to compensate unstable fps and thus causes you to slow down rather than speed up. So stability is the key here.

Text above isn't 100% accurate by playing with the patch I have noted that while running, and hitting a wall for example or whatever that stops your momentum will trigger the slow movement bug, this can be triggered in some environments where surfaces are uneven. Uneven surfaces can possibly by this logic also trigger bad rolls but this is just speculation. I need to try an contact the author to inform about this and possible get it fixed if it is possible. Here is my YouTube video that shows the bugs happening.

-This patch should be relatively safe to use, however we can never be 100% sure, some people claim to have been banned by using only ReShade for example, to ease your nerves you can play offline to be on the safe side.
Edit: It's been almost a few weeks after release and I amongst other players have played online without getting banned, so the patch is safe for online, it also works with PvP Watchdog[www.nexusmods.com]

Special thanks to SaucyX for putting this thing together, please report bugs and anomalies to SaucyX's Nexusmods page to improve this project! <3

No bans have come to our knowledge since the mods creation. I have played about 150+ hours with this online, and never got banned. Although you will be in a slight disadvantage since this mod will cause issues if you run into a wall, or uneven ground, it will cause running being at walking speed, or halving your roll distance. See my attached video here to see the bugs.
Give it a try and see for yourself. :praisesun: But do keep in mind that Bandai can always change their stance in the future regarding these mods, same goes for DS2, Sekiro and Elden Ring FPS unlockers.

As of 2024, can I get a ban?

Using version 1.0 (20 Jul 2020 release) from the Nexus Mods page fixed both crashing when switching to bows and fps not being unlocked for me. You can find it if you scroll down to the Old files section in the Files tab of the Nexus Mods page.

@Scotty, I'm really sorry, I haven't had much time to do testing due to IRL stuff. I've been too busy lately. If someone else can do some testing on g-sync hardware that'd be great! I'll try to squeeze in some time to try it myself. I'm sorry about this. And as also mentioned, the guide needs updating as well, perhaps I'll do it all the same day, testing and the revised guide.

Thanks everyone! :praisesun:

@Gartz you said you'll do some testing with g-sync on? Does that mean you've gotten g-sync to work? For whatever reason it's not working for me. I have it globally enabled and it's enabled for both fullscreen and windowed/desktop applications. Any ideas?

Thanks

If you need to go back to the original state of the game, you can verify the integrity of game files via Steam. And make sure to delete those 2 files you moved in the game folder.

Help! When I moved these two files to the folder with the game, I simply stopped running it. That is, when I launch it, a black screen with a cursor is stupidly displayed to me. what to do?
