Greetings, everyone.

The world of Death Stranding is a strange and rough one, and it gets rougher for us left handed players. No, not really, but I just wanted to make a video showing my own custom Left Handed keybinds for this game, as I’ve made a couple videos in the past, long ago really, talking about left handed controls in general, and basic tips, but as I said that was long ago and I’ve been wanting to come back to this topic, especially for newer games these days.

So I thought Death Stranding, being the peculiar game it is, with odd game mechanics like “balancing cargo” and stuff, could use some love for the left handed gaming community; I know we’re not many, as the world population for left handed people is like 10% or less, and among those some aren’t completely left handed for every single thing they do, and among each of those, who’re gamers anyway? And among the gamers…there are some who still prefer to use the mouse with the right hand (which to me that’s called being a right handed gamer, so go away you fake lefties!! xD)…so yeah, point is: we’re not too many, but we exist, and we play games, and some like me we’ve been doing it since the 90’s.

As usual, don’t take most of what I show in this type of video as the norm, or the best setup: this is my own setup, still somewhat a work in progress as the game is relatively new on the PC. Some basic rules are nice to be taken as general advice, like the usual stuff:

- Movement keys are the core of any keybind setup: choose them wisely.
- Important keys that are bound to major in game actions need to be bound close to movement keys, and cannot hinder or interfere with movement whatsoever.
- Non important stuff like random menus or situational stuff can be mapped further from movement keys or in places where we can use them while idling or not doing important stuff.

And that’s basically it…some core basic principles that don’t just apply to left handers, they’re…for every player and game: don’t nerf yourself by setting keybinds in weird places where your fingers cannot reach comfortably or if you need to move your hands a lot.

Also I get asked sometimes which mice a left hander could use for games, that could be a topic for a very long video, or a very short one, it depends: we lefties don’t have many options for mice, my advice is to look for symmetrical mice, side buttons on both sides, and if possible a robust mouse profile/macro software to personalize your setup in some games more easily.

That’s it, it’s all going to vary depending on what actual keys from the keyboard you prefer to use as your “core” setup, of course.

As a reference for what kind of “gaming experience” I have, being left handed for every single game: I’ve played games from the likes of Unreal Tournament, Half-Life, Quake, Soldier of fortune 1&2, back in the late 90s, early 2000s, all of those online of course, and some at a very high skill level (I’m pretty amazing at SOF, despite being a very niche game, lol). Never had a player come to me and tell me I play “weirdly”, they never noticed I’m a lefty, until I told them, and that means my keybinds were proper.

Also played MMOs like WoW, Archeage, SWTOR, Guild Wars 2, Wildstar and many more, no issues, just a matter of finding the proper key setup and modifiers.

So yeah, I have a lot of experience as a left hander, because that’s how I play best, so my advices are not just made up, they’re backed up by experience, but that doesn’t mean they’ll suit your own playstyle…you need to experiment a lot yourselves.
