it took me some time with blender to take the arms from the David model and rig them up to the view-model bones used for first-person weapons. C_hands all use the same animation, bones, and bone hierarchy. Think of it as making a car that follows the same sort of shape all other 4-wheel cars have, despite the body being a different shape.
