Heroes and the stuff they are made off
By Avril
So you bought your first hero. Unfortunately, you cannot erect his or her statue due to lack of necessary parts. I made this picture album to give you a preview of what stuff you'll need.

Following is an alphabetical overview of the heroes. They appear in the shop in random order, the first from level 6 and then one with each level increase. The first hero costs 10 gold pieces and the price doubles after each purchase (10 + 20 + 40 + 80 + 160 + 320 + 640 + 1280 + 2560 = 5110). So there is little chance that you can afford them all. With this guide you can at least see in advance whether you will be able to build their statue.

Heroes can eat and sleep. They cannot resurrect. When they die or the statue is broken, their effigy in no longer available in the store. The purchase price for the next hero increases as if the fallen one is still around.
- Barry Tinkerton
+ hovers around rather quickly
+ good miner

- gets killed easily

- Burner
+ burns his enemies

- and wooden objects in the neighbourhood (e.g.cages)

- Demetra
+ plants trees in random locations (like in the exact spot you wanted to dig down for your elevator)
+ excellent archer, shoots 5 arrows at once

- Dja Baa
- Magni Hookcatcher
+ Strengthens dwarfs attack temporarily

- Nostradwarvus
+ Uses Portal spell and Magic collect. This does not affect your mana

- Paladin
+ Dedicated fighter

- Tsun Ukun
+ Very nimble climber
+ Carries a lot of items at once

- Wants to but can not replace minerals with earth, sand or stone. So just stands there, doing nothing, until another dwarf executes the task.

- Ulvards
+ When "Bosses and Monsters" is installed, he is a formidable fighter.

- Since update 1.8.002, whenever he goes in attack mode thus changing into a werewolf, change is high that he will slaughter your sheep in their pen, especially when they got selected to be sheared (cut).

Paladin cast a buff around nearby dwarves when in combat.

Dja Baa also does deal damage to his targets with his frogs, they deal the same amount as his attack damage on explosion, they also explode on friendly dwarfs healing them for the same amount, meaning early game although he isnt great end game for damage output he can keep your dwarfs healed and fighting/mining for a long time at the cheapest price of all heroes.

The gold amount required does not go over 640 since you cannot have more than 999 golden coins thus every hero after 320 is 640 gold coins.

It may be worth mentioning that Burner can also wipe out your livestock unintentionally by using his rain of fire near the pen, which will sometimes happen if you kill off animals to let them keep breeding.

I don't know if it's a bug, but when I bought Barry Tinkerton, I got TWO of his statues, built and placed them both and made TWO flying mecha-miner dwarves!

Dja Baa summons frogs that act as meat shields. They don't do or take a lot of damage, but they can slow down mobs and draw aggro away from your ranged dwarves for that first brutal raid on high difficulty. Also has the lowest mat requirements, so it's only worth the investment early on if you don't have the mats yet (like silver) for a better choice.
