The Panjwai district is located in Afghanistan west of Kanadahar City. It is widely considered the spirtual home of the Taliban.

The soviets failed to clear this area with 6000 men in 1987 during the Soviet-Afghan War.

In the early 2000s, this area saw heavy fighting between Canadian, American, British, and Dutch forces against Taliban insurgents in pitched battles and ambushes. The dense vineyards and mud-walled compounds made navigating the terrain difficult for coalition forces and gave the Taliban opportunity to ambush and engage typically superior conventional opponents.

The map features two river valleys, separated by a more arid highground. Many capture zones have underground caves and tunnels allowing infantry to move safely and quickly in the more vulnerable open terrain. The center points of the RAAS lanes will see fighting over the town of Panjwai, an underground mountain complex, central mountain towns, a large FOB, or a power plant. Creative license was taken as the real Panjwai district is mostly flat farmland with large barren mountains, foliage-covered mountainous and forested areas were added to make fighting over different parts of the map feel more varied.

Development

The map is a work in progress, the entire map is now playable. Performance has not been thoroughly tested, especially in helicopters. Final detail passes have yet to be done so some secondary capture points may lack cover or feel empty.

Known Issues
  • Playable area bounds not visible on minimap
  • Some POIs still need a detailing pass so may lack cover or feel empty
  • Ambient SFX is lost in extreme NW corner of map
  • On sandstorm lighting layers, scoped optics looking in the direction of the sun will get blown out and turn all white over time

Just FYI the Dari/Pashto in Arabic characters on your pictures are written in the wrong direction and not connected as they should be. You can just copy this text if you want پنجواي :)
